The Philadelphia supporting cast gets another chance to prove the 76ers are more than just a dynamic duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Philly travels to the West Coast to take on Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers without their top two players.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Winning on the road is hard enough as is for Philly. Winning in LA against one of the league’s best teams and without Simmons and Embiid is next level tricky. The Sixers are 9-21 straight up (SU) and a league-worst 7-21-2 against the spread (ATS) away from home this season.

Even worse, the Sixers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games as underdogs and 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 catching points on the road. Philadelphia battling the Miami Heat for the fourth seed and home court advantage in a potential first round playoff matchup.

Philadelphia is 6-2 SU and 8-0 ATS in its last eight games against the Clippers including a 110-103 win last month. Of course, that was in Philly and with both Simmons and Embiid in the lineup.

The Clippers come into Sunday’s game off a 132-103 home win over the Denver Nuggets as 7-point chalk. Los Angeles is 3-0 SU and ATS in its last three games and the club is allowing just 97.3 points per game over the stretch.

They own the fifth best record in the league at 40-19, but Sports Interaction list the Clippers with the third shortest odds to win the 2020 NBA title at +325 behind the Milwaukee Bucks (+225) and the Los Angeles Lakers (+290).

Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers go into Game 2 of life without Embiid and Simmons. Embiid played close to eight minutes against the Cavaliers on Wednesday before departing with a wrist injury. Simmons remains out with a lower back injury.

The void creates an opportunity for role players like Al Horford and Tobias Harris to shine. The two combined for 49 points, 14 rebounds and 16 assists on Thursday against the Knicks. This stretch of games is particularly big for Horford. The former All-Star big lost his spot in the starting lineup, but he has an opportunity to reassert his role in the rotation with Embiid out.

L.A. Clippers

The Clippers have 23 games to build some chemistry. Summer arrivals Paul George and Kawhi Leonard have missed a combined 35 games, while starting point guard Patrick Beverley has suited up in just 43 of 59 games.

Couple those absences with the arrivals of Marcus Morris Jr. and Reggie Jackson, and it’s clear head coach Doc Rivers has his work count out for himself.
