2025 NBA 3-Point Contest Odds, Prediction: Damian Lillard looking to join elite company

NBA: All Star-Saturday Night

Damian Lillard opened as the favourite to win the NBA's 3-point contest for a third consecutive year.

When the NBA All-Star festivities hit Golden State’s Chase Center on Saturday, Damian Lillard will be looking to accomplish something that hasn’t been done since 1992: win the 3-point contest for a third straight year. In fact, Larry Bird from 1986 to 1988 and Craig Hodges from 1990 to 1992 are the only players ever to win three straight 3-point contests.

Will it be “Dame Time” on Saturday, or can someone unseat the king of the three? Let’s take a look.

Damian Lillard, Milwaukee Bucks (+300)

Obviously, Lillard was going to be the favourite for this event. He’s participated four times and won in each of the last two years. Even before Lillard takes his first shot he’ll make history on Saturday as just the eighth player ever to compete in the 3-point contest five times.

Lillard can join an even more exclusive club by winning, which would level him with Larry Bird and Craig Hodges as the only players to ever win the 3-point contest three total and consecutive years. Consistency has been key for Lillard, who finished with exactly 26 points in every round last year.

Buddy Hield, Golden State Warriors (+500)

Buddy Hield should have a pretty good coach on his side, with teammate and two-time 3-point contest winner Steph Curry giving him tips. Hield is a former 3-point contest winner himself, having taken the contest in 2020 as a member of the Sacramento Kings.

Hield actually competed against Lillard in the final round of the 2023 3-point contest, losing by just one shot, so Saturday is a chance for revenge. And while Hield will have home-court advantage, keep in mind he’s only hitting 31.9 per cent of 3-point attempts at Chase Center this season.

Darius Garland, Cleveland Cavaliers (+500)

With Hield’s 3-point struggles this season, Darius Garland is a better value pick if you’re looking for someone to unseat Lillard. Garland is on a career-pace when it comes to 3-point shooting, averaging 3.0 triples per contest on 43.8 per cent shooting from beyond the arc.
