The Blue Jays are playing meaningful baseball in September and their betting supporters have jumped on the bandwagon.
Now, with the Jays still holding a half-game lead over the New York Yankees at the top of the AL East Division, both bettors and oddsmakers believe in this team. Sports Interaction now has the Blue Jays as +300 favourites to win the World Series, ahead of the Kansas City Royals at +550 and the St. Louis Cardinals at +600.
Toronto closes out its series in Boston Wednesday before heading to the Bronx for a pivotal four-game set against the Yankees beginning Thursday.
The Jays definitely have Canada’s betting support. Over the past month it hasn’t been uncommon to see better than 85 percent of bettors backing the Jays in any given game. Right now Toronto sits as the No. 8 money team in the majors, having earned better than 10 units for its bettors this season.
“Not only the whole city but the whole country is behind us,” Jays outfielder Ben Revere told reporters. “To be part of the playoffs would bring that city back to life again. I know it’s hockey country, but hopefully come October and in November it becomes baseball country.”
