Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays: Odds, Prediction
Here’s another look at the MLB odds for the opener as the Jays face Sox ace and Cy Young contender Garrett Crochet.
Red Sox vs. Blue Jays Betting Analysis
This marks the second series between the AL East rivals of the season, and Boston’s only visit to Toronto in the first half. The Jays will return to Fenway Park from June 27-29. The clubs played four games there from April 7-10 and Toronto won three of four. With a chance to sweep in the finale, the Jays lost in 10 innings – blowing one-run leads in the eighth and 10th innings.
George Springer is hitting .538 against Boston pitching this year with a double, homer and five RBIs. Bo Bichette is at .294 with four RBIs, but Anthony Santander is 3-for-18 with seven strikeouts in the season series. Jarren Duran leads the Red Sox in batting .357 in the series, while Rafael Devers is at .313 but they have combined for only two RBIs.
Second baseman Kristian Campbell was 2-for-11 with four Ks in the series. We mention Campbell because he’s among the betting favourites at +180 for AL Rookie of the Year. The 22-year-old is batting .305 on the year with three homers and 10 RBIs. The Red Sox love him so much that they already signed Campbell to an eight-year, $60 million (U.S.) extension.
Boston Red Sox
Boston is 2-1 on a six-game trip after winning two of three in Cleveland over the weekend. The Sox are now 9-3 in their past 12 overall, and their 15 wins in April are second-most in the AL. Boston outfielder Jarren Duran enters with back-to-back three-hit games. In addition, Boston has stolen home in back-to-back games – the first Red Sox team to do so within a season in at least the expansion era (1961). It’s an aggressive team on the basepaths under Manager Alex Cora. Ace lefty Garrett Crochet (2-2, 1.95 ERA), the team’s big offseason trade acquisition from the White Sox, is on the hill Tuesday. Crochet is as nasty as any lefty in the majors, but the one knock on the 25-year-old is that sometimes he can be wild. That caught up to Crochet last time out in allowing a season-high four earned runs and walking a season high five in a loss to Seattle. Crochet is 2-1 with a 0.66 ERA in 13.2 career innings against the Blue Jays. He allowed one earned run (three unearned) over 5.2 innings against them on April 8 in a home loss. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 0-for-6 career off Crochet. George Springer has a homer in four at-bats.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays unexpectedly got Saturday off in New York due to a postponement but then were swept in a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium on Sunday to finish their road trip at 1-5. One small bright spot from that DH was massively struggling Anthony Santander homering in Game 2 to snap a five-game hitless streak. But the team’s big free-agent addition is still hitting just .179. The Jays didn’t activate outfielder Daulton Varsho from his injury rehab assignment for the Yankees series, but the Gold Glover is expected to be in the Toronto lineup Tuesday for the first time this season. Toronto needs power from someone as it has an MLB-worst minus-22 home run differential. Righty Bowden Francis (2-3, 3.58 ERA) gets the start on the hill Tuesday. He has been significantly better at home in 2025 at 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts. Francis missed the Red Sox in the earlier series and is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 14.2 career innings against them with only six hits allowed. No current Boston batter has more than five at-bats off Francis and none have homered off him.
