MLB Odds: Toronto Blue Jays Open as World Series Favourites

The Toronto Blue Jays’ playoff run came up just short last year. This season they open as one of two favourites to win the World Series.

The Toronto Blue Jays say they’re all-in for this year and oddsmakers agree, making them +750 World Series favourites.

The Jays were pegged at +1600 to win the World Series last year at Spring Training so it’s obvious last year’s deep playoff run has carried over to this year. Will this team have the same success though?

Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion are a year older and will be unrestricted free agents at the end of this season, while David Price is now an AL East Division rival again after joining the Boston Red Sox. Can Josh Donaldson match his MVP-winning season? How will the team react to changes in the front office? Is John Gibbons really the man to manage this team to its third World Series title?

In short, there are some question marks with this Blue Jays team that isn’t going to sneak up on anyone this time around but there are reasons to be optimistic too.

“It’s a very exciting team,” new General Manager Russ Atkins told reporters. “We’re going to score runs. The key will be run prevention. We feel like we’ve upgraded our pitching staff. … And if we are able to prevent runs, then there is no reason why we shouldn’t be successful again.”
