Sosa, Bieber

Toronto is receiving Sosa from the White Sox in exchange for minor league outfielder Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

To free up room for Sosa on the 40-man roster, the Jays moved Bieber to the 60-day injured list. There is no change in Bieber’s rehab or status, according to Blue Jays reporter Keegan Matheson.

Sosa, 26, has appeared in 12 games for Chicago this season, slashing .212/.212/.303 with three RBIs. He went 2-for-6 with one RBI in two games against Toronto over Easter weekend.

A five-year MLB veteran, the native of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela had a solid campaign last year, finishing with 22 home runs and 75 RBIs across 140 games.

Primarily playing at second or third base, Sosa has a .245 lifetime average with 37 career home runs.

Toronto Blue Jays

It’s been a nightmare start to the season for the 6-9 Blue Jays as they have been decimated with injuries throughout the roster, but particularly on the mound.

Toronto will look to turn things around on their upcoming nine-game road trip, which they begin in Milwaukee on Tuesday night with the first of a three-game set against the Brewers.
