MLB Free Agency: Will Bo Bichette be back with the Blue Jays in 2026?

It’s only been a few days since the Toronto Blue Jays fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a heartbreaking Game 7 loss in the World Series, but it’s time to look ahead to the off-season.

One of the biggest question marks for Toronto’s off-season is whether or not the club will sign unrestricted free agent Bo Bichette.

Here’s what you need to know.

Bo Bichette

2025 stats: .311/.357/.483, 18 HR, 94 RBIs, 3.4 WAR

Age in 2026: 28

Position: SS, 2B, 3B

Bichette has continually reiterated his desire to stay in Toronto, but he’ll be one of the most pursued free agents this off-season and there’s a doubt on whether the Jays can afford to sign the star shortstop.

However, a couple of factors could swing in Toronto’s favour. Bichette legitimately seems to like playing for the Blue Jays, so a tie should go Toronto’s way if they offer the same dollar figure as other suitors.

You’re also talking about a team Bichette just went on a World Series run with and they should stay competitive for the foreseeable future with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. locked up long-term.

I also wonder about the seriousness of Bichette’s knee injury. If Bichette undergoes surgery that will see him miss significant time next season, other teams may be wary of handing out big money, whereas Toronto could be more comfortable as they know what they’ll get with Bichette, who has been in the organization for years.

Bichette’s contract will be fascinating if he hits the open market. He’s one of the best hitters in baseball and firmly in his prime.

The interest will also depend on if teams see him as a shortstop, or a second or third baseman. Bichette wants to get paid like a shortstop, but there’s some question on his ability to play the position long-term.

Either way, Bichette is about to land a big pay day.
