Dodgers’ Urias Pitches in Single-A

Of the many, many weapons on the L.A. Dodgers’ roster heading into the season was Julio Urias. His 2022 was one to remember. He went 17-7 with an incredible 2.16 ERA. In fact, his career since arriving in the City of Angels in 2016 has been brilliant, with an overall record of 54-21, bolstered by a 2.95 ERA.

But his 2023 is a different story. At 5-4 and a 4.39 ERA, things were already not looking great when he last pitched on May 17. There was mention of him returning to action a couple of weeks ago (June 9, 10, or 11) but the organization preferred not to rush his comeback. For now, Urias is with the Dodgers’ minor league affiliate club in Rancho Cucamonga where he pitched on Sunday.

It’s put L.A.’s starting rotation in a pickle, with only four notable players to speak of. Other than Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin, Bobby Miller and Emmet Sheehan are MLB rookies.

To their credit, the Dodgers are battling in the NL West. At 43-34, they sit third in the division, only three games off of leaders the Arizona Diamondbacks. They head to Colorado for a three-match set versus the Rockies starting Tuesday evening.
