Coronavirus Halts MLB Spring Training, Postpones Opening Day

Major League Baseball is shutting down for the foreseeable future due to concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The remainder of all Spring Training games have been canceled and Opening Day has been postponed at least two weeks.

This decision was made Thursday on a conference call between league commissioner Rob Manfred and the owners of MLB’s 30 teams. No further details are available at this time about when play could resume.

Earlier in the day, the NBA, NHL, MLS and numerous other sports leagues made similar decisions to suspend play.
