Alejandro Kirk Injured in Game Versus Rangers
Blue Jays catcher Alejandro got hit by a pitch from the Rangers’ Jon Gray in the top of the second inning. The Toronto catcher, who splits duties with Danny Jansen, was in visible pain and left the contest.
X-rays Sunday night came back negative as far as a fracture goes. That said, the incident resulted in a laceration and contusion.
While Danny Jansen has proven to be a certain value this season, Kirk puts up the better numbers at the plate. Toronto will be hoping his absence, at least for now, won’t be too strongly felt as they enter an important three-game series with the upstart Miami Marlins.
It should be noted that Kirk was an MLB all-star inductee in 2022, in addition to earning a Silver Slugger award.
