2016 Belmont Stakes Odds: Picks and Predictions

This weekend marks the 148th Belmont Stakes. The legendary race, which is the third jewel in the Triple Crown, will be held at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on Saturday, June 11, 2016. With Nyquist officially out of the race, we have Exaggerator as the +125 favorite. Behind him are Suddenbreakingnews at +553 and Stradivari at +662. Thirteen horses will take race at Belmont Park, and just seven of them raced in the Kentucky Derby earlier this season.

Governor Malibu

Post Position: 1
Odds: +2000

Governor Malibu is being ridden by Joel Rosario, who has won the Belmont Stakes once before, with Tonalist in 2014.

Destin

Post Position: 2
Odds: +1200

Destin missed the Preakness, but placed 6th at the Kentucky Derby. His rider Javier Castellano has come in second at Belmost twice before.

Cherry Wine

Post Position: 3
Odds: +800

Cherry Wine’s rider JCorey Lanerie has finished almost half of his races this year in a top three position. Cherry Wine had a strong finish at Pimlico and is a horse to watch in this race.

Suddenbreakingnews

Post Position: 4
Odds: +553

Suddenbreakingnews finished fifth at the Kentucky Derby and will be ridden by Mike Smith who has four Triple Crown wins, including two victories at Belmont .

Stradivari

Post Position: 5
Odds: +662

Stradivari finished fourth in the Preakness, and will be jockeyed by John Velazquez who has two Belmont wins to his name.

Gettysburg

Odds: +4000

Gettysburg’s odds reflect the fact that he is considered a rabbit, or a horse entered into a race to ensure a strong early pace.

Seeking the Soul

Seeking the Soul was second in his his first race early this year and then fifth coming back in early May at Churchill Downs. He will be ridden by Florent Geroux

Forever d’Oro

Jose Ortiz will be riding Forever d’Oro, who, like fellow Belmont entrant Stradivari, is a son of Medaglio d’Oro.

Trojan Nation

Trojan Nation has yet to win a race, and is a surprise entry at Belmont after a disastrous showing at the Kentucky Derby.

Lani

Odds: +1200

The horse from Japan finished ninth in the Kentucky Derby and fifth in the Preakness.

Exaggerator

Odds: +125

Coming off a surprising Preakness Stakes victory that ended Nyquist’s Triple Crown attempt, Exaggerator is ridden by Kent Desormeaux, who won the Belmont Stakes in 2009 with Summer Bird.

The son of Giant’s Causeway finished just seventh at Preakness.
