How the CONCACAF Gold Cup Works
The CONCACAF Gold Cup is the biggest international men’s soccer tournament in North America, and it comes around every two years. The 2025 edition features 16 teams, plenty of lopsided matchups in the group stage, and a knockout round that usually delivers drama. For bettors, it’s a good mix of early value spots and live betting opportunities.
Here’s how the tournament works and what to look for if you’re planning to bet on it.

2025 Gold Cup Schedule and Host Cities
The 2025 Gold Cup runs from June 14 to July 6 and will be co-hosted by Canada and the United States. Matches will be played across both countries, with the final set for NRG Stadium in Houston.
Sixteen teams will compete, including 15 from the CONCACAF region and one invited guest—Saudi Arabia.
Gold Cup Tournament Format
The tournament starts with a round-robin group stage and moves into single-elimination knockout rounds.
Group Stage
- Four groups of four teams
- Each team plays three matches
- Top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals
- Tiebreakers are goal difference, goals scored, and head-to-head results
Knockout Round
- Quarterfinals: June 28–29
- Semifinals: July 2
- Final: July 6
- If a knockout match is tied after 90 minutes, it goes to extra time and, if needed, penalties
- There’s no third-place game
How to Bet on the Gold Cup
Betting on Group Winners and Qualification
Before the tournament kicks off, you can bet on who will win each group or who will finish in the top two. Group winner odds tend to offer better returns but come with more risk. In groups with a clear favourite, it can make more sense to bet on who finishes second.
If you expect a team to surprise and sneak through to the next round, this is where to back them early.
Match Result (1X2)
This is your standard win, lose, or draw bet. In the group stage, the top teams like Mexico or the U.S. are often heavy favourites. The odds reflect that, so look at alternative markets or consider betting on the spread if you’re backing the favourite.
Over/Under and Both Teams to Score
When top-tier teams face weaker opponents, the over 2.5 goals line is usually in play. Games between more evenly matched sides are better spots for both teams to score. If you know how a team typically sets up—whether they’re aggressive or more conservative—you can often get an edge in totals markets.
Handicap Betting
Handicap or spread betting comes into play when there’s a mismatch. For example, if the U.S. is playing Trinidad & Tobago, you might get better value taking the U.S. at -2.0 or -2.25 rather than betting the moneyline. This market becomes more important in the group stage, where blowouts are more common.
Futures and Outright Winner
The outright market is where you bet on which country will win the tournament. The U.S. and Mexico are usually the top two favourites, but Canada is climbing the ranks and can’t be overlooked. There’s also long-shot appeal in teams like Jamaica or Saudi Arabia if you think one of them can make a run.
These odds move as the tournament goes on, so you can bet early or wait for live value once the group stage wraps.
Player Props
You’ll also find odds on top goalscorer and anytime goalscorer markets. Look for attacking players who are expected to start all three group stage matches. Early games against weaker opposition can inflate goal totals, which makes this market especially active in the first two rounds.

Gold Cup Betting Tips
- Start with group bets. Group winners, qualification, and handicaps are easier to read before the chaos of the knockout rounds.
- Watch lineup news. Some teams rotate players or rest starters depending on the opponent. Squad depth matters.
- Use handicaps wisely. Don’t chase a -500 favourite. Look for a -1.5 or -2.0 line and decide if the team can cover.
- Take advantage of live betting. Especially in knockout games, momentum swings quickly. Watch the match and strike when you see an edge.
- Be selective with futures. Don’t just bet on the favourite. Look at the bracket and think about a team’s path to the final.
The Gold Cup offers a strong mix of early mismatches and late-round tension. Whether you’re betting on group results, chasing top goalscorers, or following your team through the bracket, this tournament has something for every type of bettor.
