How Does the UEFA Euro 2024 Tournament Work?

Euro 2024, officially known as the UEFA European Football Championship 2024, is a major international football tournament organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It is held every four years and features national teams from across Europe.

Opening Match: 14 June 2024, Allianz Arena, Munich

Final: 14 July 2024, Olympiastadion, Berlin

UEFA Euro Tournament Format

Group Stage

Six groups of four teams each. Round-robin format within each group. Top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, advance to the knockout phase.

If teams are tied in their group at the conclusion of the Euro 2024 group stage, tie breaks will be determined by the following criteria:

Greatest number of points earned in matches played between the nations tied.

Greatest goal difference from the matches played between the nations tied.

Greatest number of goals scored in the matches played between the nations tied.

Knockout Phase

16 teams compete in a series of elimination rounds. Matches that end in a draw proceed to extra time and, if necessary, penalty shoot-outs.

Final

The two remaining teams compete for the championship title.

Euro 2024 Groups

For Euro 2024, Germany automatically qualified as the host nation, while the remaining 53 teams competed in a year-long qualification process to determine the 23 other teams. The final 24 qualified nations were then drawn into six groups of four:
