Wyndham Championship: PGA Golf Odds And Predictions
Wyndham Championship Background
It’s going to be quite difficult for this week’s Wyndham Championship to come close to matching the drama we saw Sunday at the PGA Championship as Brooks Koepka won his second major championship of the year to all but nail down PGA Tour Player of the Year odds.
The Wyndham is the final PGA Tour event before the FedExCup playoffs. To qualify for that postseason, golfers must be ranked in the Top 125 in FedExCup points – we’d try to explain how points are earned but I’m not even sure PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan knows exactly how. Thus, just about everyone around the bubble is playing this week at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Currently sitting at No. 125 is Tyrone Van Aswegan. Chad Campbell is the first man out. Canada’s Corey Conners is at No. 128 with Nick Taylor at 129 and Ben Silverman at 134. Adam Hadwin is 68th so he’s safely in. Some bigger names outside the Top 125 include Sergio Garcia, Steve Stricker, Graeme McDowell, Retief Goosen, Bill Haas and US Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk. Only 13 players have qualified for the playoffs every year since their inception in 2007.
Sedgefield Country Club is a par 70 measuring 7,127 yards. It has hosted this tournament since 2008 and players from the USA, Sweden, India, Spain, Colombia and South Korea have all won it in that time.

Wyndham Championship Favourites
Webb Simpson, who has no worries about getting into the playoffs, is a +1400 favourite. He’s from North Carolina and attended Wake Forest. Simpson won this tournament in 2011 at 18-under 262 and has three more Top 6 finishes there since. Simpson comes off a T19 at the PGA Championship.
Henrik Stenson is +1600 to repeat. The Swede finished at 22 under to beat out Ollie Schneiderjans by a shot. Stenson is the highest-ranked player in the world in the field but comes off a missed cut at the PGA.
Adam Scott is +2000 with Brandt Snedeker, Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Shane Lowry each +2500. Scott contended at the PGA with a third-place finish. He had been 120th in the FedExCup points but now is safely in the playoffs. Snedeker won this tournament in 2007.
Canadian Golfer Odds
One Canadian has won the Wyndham Championship: Stan Leonard in 1957. Hadwin is off this week. Silverman is +10000, Mackenzie Hughes +12500, David Hearn +17500, Taylor +20000 and Conners +20000. Hearn is No. 156 in the points so he needs a big week to reach the playoffs. He was 64th in this event last year and missed the cut in three previous visits. Silverman makes his tournament debut as do Hughes and Conners.
Wyndham Championship Predictions
We like Simpson and Sergio for Top 10s, but the winning pick is Ryan Moore at +3300. His first PGA Tour win was here in 2009 and Moore owns another Top 10 result at Sedgefield. He’s having a solid season but yet to win.
