Frank Doyle makes his picks for The Heritage, teeing off on Thursday at the Harbour Town Golf Links at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The Masters isn’t the only tournament that presents its Champion with a stylish garment to win the glances of envious passers-by. As well as one million dollars and 500 FedEx points, the winner of the heritage is also presented with a red and black plaid sportscoat, making its Champion one half professional golfer and one half Ron Burgundy.

The Heritage is one of only five invitational tournaments on the PGA Tour and a glance at its previous Champions sees some of the great names in golf – Faldo, Stewart, Love, Norman, Nicklaus.

Harbour Town isn’t a long course by modern professional standards, but it’s narrow and the greens are small. Accuracy with the irons and the ability to scramble are key attributes of any potential Heritage Champion.

England’s Luke Donald, winner of the Accenture Matchplay earlier this year and Jim Furyk have the shortest ante-post golf odds but this has been no year for betting favorites with great value down the field. So for this weekend’s Heritage, here are Sports Interaction’s

Fore! to Follow

Graeme McDowell. +2800. McDowell didn’t make the cut at the Masters and this is his first tournament since. McDowell’s never been a man to boom it off the tee but that won’t be a disadvantage this weekend. The current US Open Champion has the game to get back on track at Hilton Head.

Brian Gay. +3300. The 2009 Champion has the perfect game for the Heritage – laser-like accuracy off the tee and a super scrambler when his laser lets him down.

Brandt Snedeker. +3500. Snedeker has four top ten finishes this year, two of which were in the top five, including last weekend at Texas. He’s good value at the price.

Boo Weekley. +7000. There’s something about the Harbour Town course that favors repeat winners. This is a good each-way price on a two-time former Champion.
