Great Golf Betting at the Deutsche Bank Championship

Frank Doyle makes his picks for the second tournament of the Fed Ex Cup, the Deutsche Bank Championship!

Hurricane Irene meant that they could only play 54 holes at the Barclays last week, but no such trouble is expected this week in Boston at the Deutsche Bank Championship. The venue is the TPC Boston, a course designed by Arnold Palmer that is remarkable in its generosity to the professional player.

The highest score to win the Deutsche Bank was Olin Browne’s -14 in 2005. The average winning score is -17 and it’s been won by -22 twice – Charlie Hoffman last year and Vijay Singh in 2008. Not only that, but the weather for the weekend is forecast as particularly balmy and suited to low-scoring golf.

So the candidate we’re looking for from a golf betting perspective is a man with the game to burn up the course when the Force is with him. With that simple object in mind, here are Sports Interaction’s

Adam Scott (+1600). The Australian won the Bridgestone Invitational at the start of July and had top ten finishes in the Masters and the PGA this year. He can have disasters, but he’s also capable of shooting 62, as he did in the first round of the Bridgestone.

Vijay Singh (+3300). The Fijian veteran has won the Deutsche Bank twice, including a course record score as mentioned above. He’s in form currently too, with a tied fourth finish at the Wyndham Championship and tied third last week at the Barclays.

David Toms (+5500). Toms has an upsetting habit of shooting poor first rounds lately. He recovered for a fourth place finish in the PGA after a poor first round, but he left himself with too much to do last week at the Barclays and got cut despite shooting 66 on the second day. But 2011 has still been a great year for Toms, and he’s worth a bet at the price.

KJ Choi (+8000). The diminutive Korean has six top ten finishes for the year, including a win at the Players’ Championship at Sawgrass and a second place finish at the AT&T National. Well worth a look at the price.
