2023 Bermuda Championship: PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds
This event only dates to 2019 and is one of the most picturesque locations on the Tour. Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton is the host and is a short 6,830 yards or so (still the longest course in the country) playing to par 71. With its seaside setting, elevation changes and several doglegs, it’s not always a pushover (depends on winds), although it has taken at least 15 under to win each year. Players take a 15-minute ferry ride from the hotel to the golf course.
The defending champion is Ireland’s Seamus Power. He took the lead for good with a 25-foot birdie putt at the 14th Sunday. He would bogey No. 18 to shoot a 1-under 70 and finish at 19-under 265 and one up on Thomas Detry, who earlier holed a bunker shot on the 18th for birdie and a 67. Then-rookie Ben Griffin started the back-nine Sunday with a two-shot lead over Power, but Griffin bogeyed four straight holes and doubled the par-3 16th. There were strong winds during the final round.
It was Power’s second career victory after the 2021 Barbasol Championship in Kentucky, and he hasn’t won since – and is not playing this week. Griffin’s T3 last year was his best career result anywhere before a runner-up last month at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Griffin comes off a T64 at the Zozo Championship and is +2500 to win this week.
A 15-year-old Bermudian has qualified for the tournament. Oliver Betschart (+100000), a local prodigy who in 2022 became the youngest player to win the Port Royal Golf Club Championship, shot 3 over par in the 54-hole local qualifier to become one of three players to make it through.
Betschart missed qualifying for the tournament by a shot last year and will be the youngest player to compete on the PGA Tour since 2014. The only younger players to appear in a Tour event are Michelle Wie West, Tianlang Guan, Andy Zhang and Lorens Chan. Kenny Leseur was also 15 but six months older when he qualified for the 2019 Bermuda Championship.
We liked Russell Knox to win last year at +3500, and he finished T49. Knox is +9000 this week. Erik van Rooyen, who won the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico on Sunday, is not playing in Bermuda.
Bermuda Championship Golf Odds
Bet on the Bermuda Championship
Australia’s Adam Scott is probably the biggest name in the field and the +1600 favorite. It’s his first time in the event and he comes off a T41 at the Zozo Championship two weeks ago.
Brendon Todd is +1800. He won the inaugural Bermuda Championship in 2019 in shooting a tournament-record 24-under 260 by four shots over fellow American Harry Higgs. That’s the only Bermuda Championship decided by more than one shot or not in a playoff.
Akshay Bhatia, Alex Noren and Thomas Detry are all +2000. Bhatia was 17th here last year, while Noren only played here in 2019 and was 15th. Detry was the 2022 runner-up and was 22nd the year before. Noren was 15th in 2019 in his only visit.
No Canadian has won here. Nick Taylor was the top finisher at T23 last year with Michael Gligic and David Hearn missing the cut. Taylor Pendrith is +2200 this week with Mackenzie Hughes +3300, Gligic +40000 and Hearn +100000.
Bermuda Championship Golf Predictions
We’ll take Canadian Taylor Pendrith for a Top 10 as he was fifth here in 2021, but the winner at +2200 is Alex Smalley. He has been 11th and 12th in two trips here and is 2-for-2 in cuts made in the 2023 Fall Series.
