2020 3M Open Tournament: PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds
It’s a rare PGA Tour event played since the coronavirus restart when it was originally scheduled to be as the professional golfers head to the Twin Cities in Minnesota this week for the 3M Open. Dustin Johnson is the favourite on the golf odds.
It’s not a great field as the second-year 3M Open has one of the smaller purses on Tour. Plus, essentially every big-name player in the world was in action last week at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio and will be teeing it up next week in the big-money World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and then the week after in the PGA Championship. For example, new world No. 1 Jon Rahm, who won the Memorial on Sunday, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are among those taking the week off.
The 3M Open debuted last year at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, as it replaced a long-running Champions Tour event in the area. Minnesota native Tom Lehman played a role in this tournament coming to fruition by upgrading the course in a redesign. TPC Twin Cities is a par 72 around 7,200 yards.
Last year’s 3M Open was the PGA Tour’s first regular stop in the state since the Minnesota Golf Classic played its last edition in 1969. Matthew Wolff is the defending champion and +2900 to repeat. He made a 26-foot eagle putt from the fringe of the green on the 72nd hole to finish at 21 under par and beat out Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke (neither playing this week).
DeChambeau had already finished, and Morikawa barely missed his 22-foot eagle putt after Wolff’s make. Wolff is a former NCAA individual golf champion at Oklahoma State and considered a future star on Tour. He was only the third player ever to win an NCAA individual national title and PGA Tour event in the same year, joining Tiger and Ben Crenshaw. The 2019 3M Open was Wolff’s third tournament as a professional.
3M Open Odds
Johnson is the +1000 favourite, which is interesting considering he just shot 80-80 at the Memorial and missed the cut. DJ didn’t play here in 2019.
Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka are each +1200. Finau was the first-round leader at the Memorial but shot 73-78 on the weekend to finish T8. He was T23 here last year. Koepka was T62 at the Memorial and didn’t play very well at the 2019 3M Open with a T65. Englishmen Tommy Fleetwood and Paul Casey are each +1600. It’s Fleetwood’s first PGA Tour event since the restart and debut here. Casey missed the cut last week and also debuts here.
Canada’s Adam Hadwin finished tied for fourth last year at 18 under – his worst round was a 69 on Saturday – but is taking this week off. Roger Sloan (+20400) finished T15 at 14 under. David Hearn (+36300) was T58 at 7 under.
3M Open Golf Predictions
Take Johnson and Finau for Top 10s, but the winner at +3600 is Lucas Glover. He was T7 last year and played reasonably well at the Memorial with a T38.
