2023 Miami Grand Prix Predictions, Formula 1 Odds

Perez became the first ever repeat winner in Azerbaijan, edging out Red Bull teammate and chief rival Max Verstappen to claim his second checkered flag of the season. “Checo” also padded his point total with a victory in last Saturday’s sprint race, and enters Round 5 of the 2023 Formula 1 campaign trailing Verstappen by just six points in the race for the top of the F1 Drivers Standings.

Last weekend’s checkered flag sweep has failed to boost Perez on the odds to win the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, where he lags as a +300 second favourite, well behind Verstappen, who leads the way as -227 chalk to claim a second straight victory at this event. Charles Leclerc’s strong qualifying performances and third-place finish in Baku have buoyed him to +1200 on the F1 odds, while Fernando Alonso rounds out the top of the odds board as a +1400 bet.

Miami Grand Prix Race Time, Weather Forecast

Lights out at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix is scheduled for 3:30pm ET on Sunday afternoon at Miami International Autodrome. Weather could become a factor as the weekend progresses. While the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies on Friday and Saturday, there is an increasing chance of rain showers at race time on Sunday with temperatures hovering in the low 80s Fahrenheit.

Checo Emerging as Legitimate Title Contender

Max Verstappen remains perched as a massive -521 favourite to claim a third straight crown after last weekend’s second-place finish. However, a legitimate challenger to the open-wheeled racing throne has emerged in the form of teammate Sergio Perez. The 33-year-old Mexican has matched Verstappen in wins so far this season, with the duo combining to take the podium on three occasions. And unlike past years, the Red Bull duo appear to have the blessing of team management to settle throw growing rivalry on the track.

That decision has added some real value to Checo’s +740 odds on the F1 championship futures, and certainly makes him a viable option for sports bettors looking to pick this weekend’s race winner. While Verstappen enjoys the edge on straights, Checo is the superior driver on street tracks, both of which are featured in this weekend’s race in Miami. And if he can avoid the technical issues that forced him to settle for a fourth-place finish in Miami last year, he offers the best betting value as a +300 wager.

Leclerc Enjoying Qualifying Resurgence

Charles Leclerc took a big step towards getting past a rough start to the season last weekend in Azerbaijan, claiming the pole position in both the Saturday Sprint and the main race. The Ferrari driver is hoping to extend that success to qualifying in Miami, where he claimed the pole last year.

That is reflected in Leclerc’s short +275 to lead the way in qualifying. However, given the struggles that Ferrari has endured in their bid to keep pace with Perez’s and Verstappen’s Red Bull and the lengthy straights that make up much of the Miami International Autodrome, it is tough to see Leclerc duplicating last weekend’s feat.

Indeed, keeping up with the Red Bulls should be the least of Leclerc’s concerns after seeing both Ferraris outclassed by Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in the first three races of the season. Alonso was in reach of a fourth straight podium last weekend but was forced to keep his focus on maintaining tires instead of overtaking Leclerc for third place.

With weather emerging as a factor this weekend, one-stop strategies are likely to go out the window before Sunday’s race even starts. And with the Aston Martin duo of Alonso and Lance Stroll demonstrating impressive teamwork, it is tough to overlook the two-time F1 champion as a -120 wager to once again claim a spot on the podium.
