Odds and Bets: Toronto Argonauts and BC Lions Test Their Defences

BC Lions vs Toronto Argonauts: Top Defences Clash

B.C. Lions @ Toronto Argonauts (Monday, Jul 3 2023 7:00pm)

Over/Under
  • Over -110 +47
  • Under -110 +47

The long Canada Day weekend concludes with a CFL bout between teams on the opposite end of the nation. The BC Lions, arguably the best club in the country, visit the defending champions Toronto Argonauts at BMO field. Neither team has lost so far, although the Lions have the benefit of having played three games to the Argos’ two.

Understandably this is billed as the game of Week 4. Two good teams, one with a title belt, the other looking to make the jump from a solid 2022. The catch, insofar as how one might approach this game, is that Toronto has beaten up on Hamilton and Edmonton, two clubs still looking for their first wins of the season. BC sports a 3-0 record and they took care of Calgary and Winnipeg, the latter quite easily and on the road. We’re looking at the total for this one at 47.5. The Lions have clear and away the best defence in the CFL. Toronto’s isn’t too bad itself. Expect a fairly low scoring game. Toronto’s offensive line will need to pay attention to league sack leader Mathieu Betts.

Best Bet: Toal Points Under 47.5

Baltimore Orioles vs New York Yankees: Big AL East Battle

Baltimore @ New York (A) (Monday, Jul 3 2023 7:05pm)

Runline
  • New York (A): D German -175 +1
  • Baltimore: T Wells +146 -1

The Baltimore Orioles, still chasing the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, just came off a difficult weekend series versus the Minnesota Twins. Their victory on Sunday meant that at best they avoided a sweep. Earlier last week they fell in two of three contests to the piping hot Cincinnati Reds. Suffice it to say that the end of their home stand didn’t go according to plan. Now they travel to a division rival chasing them, the New York Yankees.

Who should be sent to the mound for the pinstripes but Domingo German, who most recently pitched a perfect again in Oakland.  No hits, no walks. Baltimore’s Tyler Wells is still the better pitcher of the two this season. Aaron Judge’s absence continues to be felt, although Anthony Rizzo is doing his best pale imitation in the interim. No can possibly followup on a perfect game, short of tossing another one. Furthermore, German isn’t having a good year overall. Expect the Orioles to start the series brightly.

Best Bet: Orioles with the -1.5 runline

Los Angeles Angels vs San Diego Padres: Shohei with an RBI

LA Anaheim @ San Diego (Monday, Jul 3 2023 9:40pm)

Runline
  • LA Anaheim: J Barria -130 +1
  • San Diego: B Snell +108 -1

This isn’t one of the hot series commencing on Monday. The Padres are not having a great season despite all the promise 2022 allured fans with. The Angels are a bit better than usual, but struggle with consistency. Grabbing a Wild Card spot is a real possibility, as they are only two games out. Let’s stop beating around the bush. Everyone is really just paying attention to superstar, phenom, legend in the making Shohei Ohtani.

Hitting .306, he’s crushed three home runs in his last five games for an MLB leading 31. There appears to be no slowing him down. San Diego sends one of its better pitchers to the mound on Monday night in Blake Snell. It wouldn’t do to get too crazy and start predicting how many games he’ll hit home runs in – although that would be fun. We’ll play it down the middle and say he doesn’t send one out of the park, but helps his side with at least an RBI today.

Best Bet: Shohei Ohtani over 0.5 runs
