MLB: Cincinnati Reds at San Francisco Giants

Today we discuss the conclusion to the Reds vs. Giants series, the Blue Bombers possibly clinching a playoff spot against the Roughriders, and Arsenal vs. Manchester United.

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants

Cincinnati @ San Francisco (Wednesday, Aug 30 2023 3:45pm)

  • Cincinnati: H Greene -145 +1
  • San Francisco: L Webb +121 -1

On Wednesday two teams fighting for their NL Wild Card lives conclude a three-game set when the Cincinnati Reds (68-66) play the Giants in San Francisco (69-63). Tuesday nearly saw San Francisco starter Alex Cobb earn a no-hitter were it not for a Spencer Steer double in the ninth inning.

San Fran claimed the first two games, thus putting them officially in a Wild Card spot, albeit barely. The Reds currently sit two games out. On Wednesday the visitors will go with Hunter Greene (2-6, 5.06 ERA) on the mound and the Giants with Logan Webb (9-10, 3.51 ERA). Both clubs are difficult to predict. All season long, whenever it’s looked like they’ve found a rhythm they’ve fumbled at the next opportunity. The problem for Cincy in this series is that they haven’t been able to produce runs, scoring only once each night. Webb may be under .500, but his ERA is strong.

Best Bet: Giants on the moneyline

Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders

Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Saskatchewan Roughriders (Sunday, Sep 3 2023 7:00pm)

  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers -110 -7
  • Saskatchewan Roughriders -110 +7

Labour Day weekend in the CFL is all about traditions. One of those is having the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-2) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-5) go at it before Labour Day Monday itself, when Toronto plays Hamilton and Edmonton contends with Calgary.  Should Winnipeg take care of business in Regina, they can clinch a playoff spot, which would be remarkable given that it’s barely September and the postseason is in November.

The Blue Bombers thrashed the Alouettes in Week 12, winning 47-17 despite Zach Collaros tossing two picks six’s. Saskatchewan enjoyed a bye week. Winnipeg possesses a frightening offence. Brady Oliveira is the CFL’s leading rusher and WR Dalton Schoen is always a deep threat. It looks as though the Roughriders will be led by QB Jake Dolegala once again. He was sensational two weeks ago, throwing three TDs. He’ll have to do that again, but can he keep up with the Blue Bombers?

Best Bet: Blue Bombers on moneyline and Over 47.0

Arsenal vs. Manchester United

Arsenal FC v Manchester United

  • Arsenal FC -149
  • Draw +343
  • Manchester United +313

Matchday 4 of the English Premier League goes out with a bang when old rivals Arsenal and Manchester United clash at Emirates Stadium in London. The Gunners experienced turbulence last week at home to Fulham when a terrible mistake within the first minute and ghastly marking on a late corner kick resulted in a 2-2 draw. More criticism surrounds Kai Havertz’s effectiveness. Manchester United used the Old Trafford momentum to claw back from 0-2 down to Nottingham Forest for a 3-2 win, but there were more signs of a leaky defence. With the transfer window closing, between the time of this writing and Sunday, Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella could be on loan at Old Trafford.

Manchester United haven’t defeated Arsenal at the Emirates in Premier League action since 2017. The current run of form at home for the Gunners against their Mancunian rivals is 4-1-0. In fact, the Gunners tend to score quite a bit when hosting the Red Devils. The latter has been a mediocre away club for a few seasons now, often buckling on stages such as this one when a big opponent awaits them.

Best Bet: Arsenal wins
