Odds and Bets: Blue Jays Bats to Stay Awake Wednesday Against Orioles
Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles
On Tuesday the Toronto Blue Jays (70-56) earned a massive victory in extra innings over the Baltimore Orioles (77-48), 6-3 in 10 innings. The win allowed Toronto to keep pace with the Seattle Mariners, who recently overtook the Jays for a coveted Wild Card spot in the American League. Seattle is having a slightly easier time taking care of the Chicago White Six while the Blue Jays and Orioles continue their series Wednesday night.
Kevin Gausman (9-7, 3.24 ERA) takes to the mound for Toronto while Baltimore hands the ball over to Jack Flaherty (8-8, 4.73 ERA). Gausman is having a very strong season, sitting the top 20 in MLB for ERA and second overall for strikeouts. Bo Bichette came back just in time for Toronto to make a playoff push. Lest it’s forgotten in all the Blue Jays chatter, the Orioles still have to fend off the Tampa Bay Rays for first in the division, so it isn’t like have nothing to play for. It’s been a frustrating season at bat for the Jays. They have a habit of hitting really well one night and then going cold the next. That’ll have to change.
Best Bet: Toronto Blue Jays on the moneyline
Calgary Stampeders vs Toronto Argonauts

Week 12’s Fright night game sends the action to Toronto where the Argonauts (7-1) will host the Calgary Stampeders (3-7). The Argos suddenly find themselves in a bit of a fight for first place in the East Division, as the Montreal Alouettes (6-3) has rattled off four wins in a row. Calgary’s season is sinking fast, with four of their seven defeats by a margin of seven points or less. They play teams tough but can’t finish them off.
With 33.1 points scored per game, the Argonauts are the cream of the CFL crop from an offensive perspective. They score in a variety of ways too, as QB Chad Kelly is only fourth in yards passing (third in touchdowns thrown). In a microcosm of Calgary’s campaign, quarterback Jake Maier leads the CFL in yards tossed, yet the Stamps are only sixth in scoring. The fly in the ointment is the +10.5 spread given to Calgary, even disrespectful. That feels like a lot.
Best Bet: Calgary Stampeders with the spread
Newcastle vs Liverpool

On Sunday, Matchday 3 of the English Premier League concludes with a mouth-watering contest between Newcastle and Liverpool from St. James’ Park. The Toon will be out in full force, expecting their side to put on a show. This season carries with it tremendous expectations for the first time in what feels like forever for Newcastle. It’s quite the start to the Premier League, with Liverpool having played at Chelsea on Matchday 1 and now a match in Newcastle. The latter were in Manchester last week to play champions City, but lost 1-0.
Two of Newcastle’s newer signings have made brimming starts to their campaigns, with Alexander Isak and summer signing Sandro Tonali having already scored. As for Liverpool, Luis Diaz is in fine form with two scores to his name. This is a tricky match to predict. Newcastle have been flying since last season. The question is was that year a one-off or are they for real? Conversely, Liverpool were off the mark in 2022-2023. Are they back? It will be tough keeping Newcastle off the scoresheet, especially in an away game.
Best Bests: Newcastle win and Asian total over 3.25
