Does Jeremiah Masoli’s Return Improve the Ottawa Redblacks’ Grey Cup Odds?
This Saturday, July 8, when the Ottawa Redblacks take to the field on the road against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, they’ll be led by quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. He hadn’t played since July 8, 2022, when he suffered a broken leg in a game.

Redblacks’ QB Jeremiah Masoli to Play Week 5
It has been a long and winding road for Ottawa starting quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Even saying that he’s the team starting QB sounds a bit strange. He was acquired from the Tiger-Cats during the 2021 offseason after spending eight seasons with the latter. His Redblacks career has only seen a handful of games of activity due to the injury suffered near the start of the 2022 campaign.
Head coach Bob Dyce spoke with the media earlier this week:
“I don’t think anybody’s worked harder than he has to get back to where he is. He’s such a consummate team player and such a great leader. It’s been a long time and it’s all been work for him. He’s continued to fight, that’s the kind of team we have to be.”
There is no beating around the bush about how Masoli’s prolonged absence has stalled Ottawa’s aspirations. They were the worst club in the East Division last season. Up until last week, they started 2023 winless. Moreover, Masoli’s return comes at just the right time since the QB who guided them to a win last week against Edmonton, Tyrie Adams, suffered a torn ACL which ends his season.
