The Elks received some bad news on Thursday morning when it was announced that Trevor Harris was placed on the six-game injury list. The report surprised many but after Harris removed himself from practice late on Wednesday due to increasing pain around his neck area, Elks officials feared the worst.

The game will mark the first time these two teams have met since August 23, 2019.

CFL Odds and Betting

The Bombers have a good history in Edmonton as of late. They are 4-1 against the spread in the last five games in Edmonton. Overall, they are 4-1 ATS in the last five games, including a two-game sweep of the Elks in 2019.

The under has been in play in nine of the last 12 games.

The Bombers opened as 6.5-point favourites at Sports Interaction, with a game total of 41.5.

Of note, the Bombers are now +225 favourites to win the Grey Cup. All Grey Cup Odds are posted here.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Blue Bombers are rolling after sweeping their home and home series with the Roughriders.

In that two-game set, the defence took centre stage and showed why they are the CFL’s best allowing only 17 points in the pair of games. Previous to that series, the Riders averaged 28.67 points per game.

A couple of key offensive weapons for the Blue and Gold included Quarterback Zach Collaros, who passed his passing prop total for the third straight game. Collaros is the +300 favourite at Sports Interaction to win league MOP.

Running back Andrew Harris has been a breath of fresh air in the team’s back field since returning from injury. In three games, he has rushed for 256 yards which places him sixth place in the CFL. Receiver Nic Demski stretched out the defence with five catches for 134 yards, one of those receptions went for 54 yards. It was his most productive game of the season.

Placekicking has been a problem for the Bombers this season. Rookie Marc Liegghio cost the Bombers five points by missing two converts and a very makeable 48-yard field goal attempt in Saturday’s game. American Ali Mourtada who is in camp, just completed his quarantine and will be in practice this week. Don’t be surprised to see him in Edmonton this weekend if he looks good in practice.

Edmonton Elks

With the injury to Harris, signs point to Taylor Cornelius or Dakota Prukop getting the start for the Elks. Cornelius spent time with the Tampa Bay Vipers (XFL) in 2020 and is in his first CFL season. Prukop spent three seasons (2017 to 2019) with the Argonauts before signing with the Stampeders in the off-season. He was released from the team earlier this year.

The Elks are 2-3 through five games this season, most recently scoring a 32-16 loss to the Calgary Stampeders in Edmonton. The surprising part of the season for the Elks has been their winless record at Commonwealth Stadium. Edmonton is 0-3 in three games at home being outscored 78-41.

Running back James Wilder has been a nice story for the Elks. After retiring from professional football in June 2020, Wilder made a return to the CFL and signed on with Edmonton. Through five games this season, he’s rushed for 428 yards (85.6 yards per game) which is tops in the CFL.

The Elks defence ranks seventh in the CFL averaging 22.8 points per game. Only the Stampeders and Redblacks have allowed more.
