While we’re at it, check out our CFL odds for the rest of Week 9’s action.
Toronto Argos QB Chad Kelly Injures Ankle
In a multitude of ways, Friday night didn’t go according to plan for the Toronto Argonauts when they played the Calgary Stampeders. They lost 20-7, their first defeat of the season. One of only two touchdowns conceded came from a comical fumble on a punt return. Lastly, starting quarterback Chad Kelly left the game due to an apparent ankle injury suffered in the second period.
He was seen limping on the Argonaut’s sideline shortly before halftime, prompting coach Ryan Dinwiddie and his staff to pull him out of action and go with backup Cameron Dukes instead.
Kelly was off to an inspiring start, throwing 6-for-9 and 94 yards, 76 of those courtesy of a long touchdown pass to WR Cam Phillips.
As of Saturday, noontime ET is no official status update on Chad Kelly. Should his injury translate to significant missed playing time, he would be yet another starting CFL quarterback to go through major injury woes in 2023. Bo Levi Mitchell (Hamilton Tiger-Cats), Jeremiah Masoli (Ottawa Redblacks), Trevor Harris (Saskatchewan Roughriders), and Vernon Adams Jr. (BC Lions)have all missed time or are gone for the season.
