Alouettes vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 8 Point Spread, Odds
The first game around the CFL in Week 8 is also its best matchup on paper as Montreal visits Calgary on Thursday night with the Stamps as 5.5-point favourites on the CFL odds board and a total of 50.5 points.
CFL Odds and Betting
This could be a Grey Cup final preview with Montreal, tied for first in the East Division, as the +330 favourite to win the title and Calgary, tied for first in the West, next at +340. The teams meet again Week 17 in Montreal.
The Alouettes are unbeaten in the past four meetings but also had a three-game winning streak in the series snapped in the final matchup last season as it was a 19-19 tie in Calgary. That ended Montreal’s franchise-record eight-game road winning streak. Cody Fajardo threw for 204 yards and ran in a touchdown in the defensive battle, with Kaion Julien-Grant finishing as Montreal’s team’s leading receiver with 71 yards.
Jake Maier finished 29-for-37 with 236 passing yards and a touchdown to Marken Michel for Calgary. Running back Dedrick Mills had 122 yards on the ground. The Stampeders dominated the time of possession and but were 1-for-4 in the red zone.
Calgary’s last win in the series was 30-27 at home in June 2022. Montreal is 13-4 ATS in the past 17 meetings. The under is 12-6 in the past 18.
Montreal Alouettes
Montreal was -9.5 at home vs. Toronto last Thursday and escaped 26-25 despite trailing by 18 points midway through the third quarter. Quarterback Davis Alexander ran in for the winning touchdown with less than two minutes remaining as Montreal scored 12 unanswered in the final quarter. Alexander tied Danny McManus’ record for consecutive wins to begin a CFL career and finished 26-for-39 with 303 passing yards, a passing touchdown and an interception. But making his first start since Week 3 due to a hamstring injury, Alexander tweaked the injury late on his winning score. He will not play Thursday and was placed on the six-game injured list.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson, acquired in the offseason in a trade with the Edmonton Elks for quarterback Cody Fajardo, will get the call. Bethel-Thompson has completed 45 of 72 passes for 472 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Alouettes in 2025. No. 1 wideout Tyson Philpot missed the Argos game and is in doubt for this one. With Philpot missing vs. Toronto, Cole Spieker stepped up with nine catches for 129 yards and a score. The Alouettes are 11-5 ATS in their past 16 road games.
Calgary Stampeders
We projected the Stamps to lose at Winnipeg in Week 8, but they were terrific in the 41-20 upset as 4.5-point underdogs in a third straight win. It was Calgary’s first victory at Winnipeg since 2017. The Blue Bombers never recovered after starting quarterback Zach Collaros went down injured in the second quarter. For the Stamps, Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 268 yards and three scores, while rookie Damien Alford caught two passes for 79 yards and two scores. He’s tied for second in the league with five TD catches. No. 1 WR Clark Barnes missed his second game in a row with an ankle injury and isn’t looking good for Thursday.
The Stamps have five or more wins in their first six games for the first time since they started the season 7-0 in 2018. They went on to finish that year 13-5 and win the Grey Cup 27-16 over the Redblacks. Calgary is 3-0 on the road this year. The defence has given up a CFL-low 111 points despite having 12 new starters on that side of the ball when the season began. That unit had four picks against Winnipeg. Calgary is 6-1 ATS in its past seven games.
