Alouettes vs. RedBlacks Prediction: CFL Week 11 Point Spread, Odds
The Alouettes turned in another dominating defensive performance while topping the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders last weekend, and have now surrendered just 14.7 points per game during their three-game surge. The RedBlacks return home looking for answers after falling 44-31 in Toronto last weekend, and have tumbled into the basement in the CFL standings while losing three straight.
Despite their recent impressive play, the Als are unchanged since opening as narrow 2.5-point road favourites on the CFL odds. The RedBlacks lag as respectable +120 underdogs, while the total has remained steady since opening at 47.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
Saturday night’s matchup marks the second of four regular season meetings between these teams this year. The Alouettes escaped with a narrow 19-12 win when they hosted Ottawa in Week 1 for their second straight win in head-to-head action. Overall, the Alouettes have taken nine of 13 regular season decision from the RedBlacks since August 2018 including seven straight victories in Ottawa. However, Montreal has failed to cover in consecutive games while going 3-5 against the spread in their past eight matchups with the RedBlacks, but are 7-1 ATS in their past eight regular season visits to Ottawa. The UNDER enjoys a slight 5-3 advantage when these teams meet, but the OVER has paid out in five of their past six dates at TD Place Stadium.
Montreal Alouettes
Cody Fajardo is once again expected to be a game-time decision when the Alouettes travel to Ottawa on Saturday. The Als veteran quarterback was forced to miss last week’s date with his former Roughriders teammates after suffering a shoulder injury that knocked him out of the team’s 27-14 victory in Hamilton two weeks ago. With Fajardo on the shelf, backup Caleb Evans stepped up, guiding an Alouettes offence that was particularly effective at moving the ball on the ground during their rout of the Roughriders. Overall, Evans connected on 8 of 13 pass attempts for 149 yards and one score. More importantly, Evans demonstrated his impressive mobility by running for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Walter Fletcher also proved he can be as effective catching the ball as he is carrying, posting team highs with 73 rushing yards and 68 receiving yards, but has yet to score in two appearances this season.
Ottawa RedBlacks
The RedBlacks allowed three leads to slip away on their way to last week’s 44-31 loss in Toronto. The hard-luck RedBlacks struck early, seizing a 10-0 lead in under nine minutes, but their previously stingy defence had no answer for a surly Argonauts seeking to rebound from their first loss of the season. Overall, Ottawa has given up an average of 31.8 points over its past four games, and must find ways to shore up their defence given the injury woes the squad faces under centre. With both Trevor Adams and Jeremiah Masoli sidelined by injury, Dustin Crum has taken over the RedBlacks, and has not looked entirely out of place. Crum tossed for 292 yards and three touchdowns in his best performance since taking over the starter’s reins. However, the Ottawa defence has not kept pace, allowing an average of just under 400 yards of net offence over their past three contest.
