2026 Week 9 CFL Power Rankings: Stampeders and Argonauts continue to climb up the leaderboard
The top of the Week 9 CFL power rankings mirrors last week’s list, but the murky middle continues to shift.
While Montreal, Edmonton and Saskatchewan retained their top status, Calgary and Toronto inched higher up the leaderboard.
Unfortunately, that means teams have to drop. The latest victims are Winnipeg and Hamilton, who have fallen to the sixth and seventh positions respectively after blowout Week 8 losses.
And with one win between them, it’s no surprise to see B.C. and Ottawa once again bring up the rear of this list.

1. Montreal Alouettes (1)
Record: 6-1
Week 8 result: W 31-18 vs. HAM
Week 9 opponent: @ OTT
It could be a long night in Ottawa on Friday as the winless RedBlacks host the league-leading Montreal Alouettes.
However, Montreal was also a heavy favourite last week against Hamilton and the game was a lot closer than the double digit score indicates. Davis Alexander had his worst outing of the season with just 187 passing yards while seeing his record interception-free streak come to an end.
Fortunately, this is a deep Als squad. Running back Travis Theis took the helm with 156 rushing yards and a touchdown to keep Montreal atop the CFL standings and power rankings.
2. Edmonton Elks (2)
Record: 6-1
Week 8 result: W 36-34 @ SSK
Week 9 opponent: vs. SSK
I’ve been high on the Elks for a bit and last week’s win in Saskatchewan backed up my confidence.
Cody Fajardo absolutely torched his former Riders teammates, throwing for a career-best 510 yards and four TDs. Fajardo has formed an elite connection with receiver Austin Mack, who hauled in 173 yards and two TDs last week.
3. Saskatchewan Roughriders (3)
Record: 4-2
Week 8 result: L 36-34 vs. EDM
Week 9 opponent: @ EDM
Don’t blame Trevor Harris or the receiving corps for last week’s loss. Harris tossed for 386 yards with four TDs and one interceptions, while Kian Schaffer Baker (185 receiving yards), KeeSean Johnson (88 yards) and Samuel Emilus (84 yards) each found the end zone.
A missed field goal cost Saskatchewan in Week 8, but they’ll have a chance to redeem themselves with a rematch in Edmonton on Saturday.
4. Calgary Stampeders (5)
Record: 3-4
Week 8 result: W 52-30 @ WPG
Week 9 opponent: @ HAM
The Stamps halted a two-game losing skid in epic fashion in Week 8, posting 52 points against Winnipeg’s defence.
Vernon Adams Jr. stayed hot and now holds the CFL record for most consecutive touchdown passes to start a season without throwing an interception (20). More history was made when Tyreik McAllister became the first player in league history to score receiving, rushing and return TDs in the same game.
You also can’t overlook the defence after Canadian Ben Labrosse secured his first three career interceptions.
5. Toronto Argonauts (7)
Record: 3-4
Week 8 result: W 26-12 @ BC
Week 9 opponent: Bye
It was a scary scene for Toronto in B.C. last week when quarterback Chad Kelly left the game in the second quarter with a neck injury.
Fortunately, Kelly is expected to be OK and he will likely be good to go when the Argos finally play their home opener in Week 10 against Calgary. Even if Kelly needs an extra week, Toronto is in a good position with backup QB Nick Arbuckle, who started 15 games for the Argonauts last year in place of the injured Kelly.
6. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4)
Record: 4-3
Week 8 result: L 52-30 vs. CGY
Week 9 opponent: vs. BC
With quarterback Zach Collaros still on the shelf, it was a game to forget for backup Dru Brown in Calgary last week. Brown looked overwhelmed and threw four interceptions in an embarrassing home loss against the Stamps.
Brady Oliveira was the lone bright spot, finishing with 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
7. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6)
Record: 3-4
Week 8 result: L 31-18 @ MTL
Week 9 opponent: vs. CGY
With Bo Levi Mitchell likely done for the season, the Tabbies are clinging to the hope that Tre Ford is the answer under centre. However, that wasn’t the case last week, with Ford putting up just 188 yards of offence with one passing TD and one interception.
The main positive to take away for Hamilton right now is they’re still not as bad as B.C. or Ottawa.
8. B.C. Lions (8)
Record: 1-5
Week 8 result: L 26-12 vs. TOR
Week 9 opponent: @ WPG
With star quarterback Nathan Rourke out because of a shoulder injury, the Lions’ first game at BC Place this season was a dud. Chase Brice was terrible in his first career CFL start, completing only 14 of 25 pass attempts (56 per cent) for 163 yards before he was benched in favour of rookie Kaidon Salter.
B.C.’s offence relied solely on kicker Sean Whyte, who nailed all four of his field goal attempts.
9. Ottawa RedBlacks (9)
Record: 0-6
Week 8 result: Bye
Week 9 opponent: vs. MTL
Ottawa finally went a week without losing a game, but that’s because they were on a bye. There’s not much to say about the season’s lone winless team and I expect them to have their hands full against Montreal this week.
