Vikings vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 16 Odds, Prediction
We have a compelling NFL Week 16 matchup on our hands on Sunday, as the New York Giants will host the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium. The Vikings suddenly look to be rejuvenated following a pair of impressive victories against the Commanders and Cowboys in recent weeks. As for New York, the Giants have shown signs of life throughout the season, but this is still one of the worst teams in football, and now, New York has dropped eight consecutive games and appears to be bottoming out as we head into the final few weeks of the season.
With the Giants hoping to finally get back in the win column and Minnesota trying to remain hot after a couple of promising performances, which side will come out on top in this Week 16 clash?
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Given the futility of the Giants over the last couple of months, it’s no surprise that New York is a home underdog on the NFL odds in this game, as Minnesota is currently a three-point road favourite on Sunday. The total for this game sits at 43.5, and it hasn’t moved much since lines opened last Sunday.
The Giants are 7-7 against the spread this season, while their games are also 9-5 to the Over. On the other side, the Vikings are 6-8 against the spread this season, with the Over cashing in eight of the 14 Minnesota games.
Minnesota Vikings
Have the Vikings found their quarterback? Even after a couple of solid performances, I’m not so sure. J.J. McCarthy has still looked lost in outdoor games this season, so we are not going to be easily swayed by the fact that he just impressed in a dome over the last two weeks.
This is also a solid New York pass rush that he’ll have to face, and given the fact that there should be sustained winds of up to 15 miles per hour throughout this game, it’s hard to imagine Minnesota generating much success through the air.
New York Giants
Unlike some of the other bad teams across the NFL, the Giants seem to still have a pulse on both sides of the ball. Even though New York ranks near the bottom of the NFL in EPA per play and success rate, the Giants have been a much better unit at home this season and are due for some positive regression in the turnover department, as well.
QB Jaxson Dart is in the midst of a pretty decent rookie year, and he’s been solid against the blitz, which certainly bodes well against a Brian Flores defence that is going to be blitz-heavy in this one. Look for Dart to perform well at home and the Giants rushing offence should lead the way on Sunday.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Vikings vs. Giants?
The Vikings can’t entirely be counted on to put up points, especially on the road. With that in mind, even though we don’t see the Giants putting up many points against this Minnesota defence, the same can be said for a Vikings offence that still has to prove it to our expert in a tricky road spot where the weather conditions will matter.
All things considered, I’m rolling with the Giants to win outright as home underdogs in Week 16, and we can expect this to be a solid effort from New York to pick up its first win in quite some time. The Giants take this one by a score of 20-17.
