Saints vs. Rams Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction

The Saints head to the coast after getting embarrassed in last week’ 23-3 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and have scored a meagre 12 points per game during their current swoon, which has dumped them into last place in the NFC with a 1-7 record. The Rams enjoyed a bye last week after completing the sweep of a two-game road trip, capped by a lopsided 35-7 win over Jacksonville at London’s Wembley Stadium two weeks ago. LA’s current surge has lifted them to 5-2 on the season and into a tie for top sport in the NFC West with Seattle.

The Rams have rocketed to 14-point home favourites on the NFL Week 9 odds. The Saints are pegged as distant +650 underdogs on the NFL moneyline, and the total is listed at 44.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These NFC rivals will be meeting for a third straight season when they hit the gridiron for Sunday afternoon’s NFL Week 9 betting matchup. The Rams eked out a 20-14 win in the Big Easy last December, and has earned the win in seven of 10 head-to-head clashes including all three dates between these teams at SoFi Stadium. Los Angeles has also been a steady bet when facing the Saints, going 7-3 against the spread and have seen five of their seven most recent victories over New Orleans come by at least a touchdown. The Rams have also regularly paid out at the sportsbook this season, going 5-2 ATS but dropped a 26-23 decision to San Francisco as 8-point chalk in their most recent home contest.

For the Saints, it has quickly become a lost season. Things have gone from bad to worse for the Saints, who have now fallen tom defeat in 11 of 12 contests overall, and nine of 10 on the road. Indeed, the road has been particularly unkind to this team, which has managed to score more than 19 points just once over their past 11 away dates, with six of those defeats coming by double-digit margins. However, the Saints have still managed to cover in four of their past five as double-digit underdogs.

New Orleans Saints

After seeing Spencer Rattler fail to find the end zone in last week’s humbling loss to the Bucs, the Saints have elected to hand the reins of the beleaguered New Orleans over to Tyler Shough. Selected 40th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, Shough got his first real taste of NFL action after relieving Rattler in last week’s defeat, and completed 17 of 30 passes for 128 yards, no score, and one INT. Shough gets set to make his first NFL start after enjoying a career year in his final season of college football at Louisville, where he tossed for 3195 yards and 23 scores while leading the Cardinals to an 8-4 record and a berth in the Sun Bowl. But with his receiving corps battered by injuries, expectations for the 26-year-old should remain tempered.

Los Angeles Rams

While the Saints search for ways to spark their offence, the Rams aim to build on their highest scoring performance of the season in their win over the Jaguars. Matthew Stafford flashed vintage form while connecting for five TDs. The 37-year-old has now tossed for 16 touchdowns over the past five games, including three-TD performances in each of his past two home appearances. Accordingly NFL betting fans should expect another big day out of Stafford, who is listed as a strong-200 bet on the NFL player props to connect for OVER 1.5 touchdowns. With a bye last week, the Rams also return to action in good health. That includes receiver Puka Nacua, who has missed the past two games with a high ankle sprain. Nacua remains listed on the injury report after being a limited participant in Wednesday practice, but reports indicate he will be ready to suit up on Sunday.
