Chargers vs. Titans Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction

The Tennessee Titans look to record their first home win in a year when they host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon in NFL Week 9 betting action at Nissan Stadium.

The Titans reach the midway point of the NFL season riding a three-game overall losing streak, and have posted just one victory in 14 contests since Thanksgiving of last year, and are coming off a lopsided 38-14 loss in Indianapolis last week.

The Chargers arrive in Tennessee on a high after handing Minnesota a 37-10 beating last week, but are winless in their past three road dates with the Titans.

L.A. is listed as a strong 9-point road favourites on the NFL Week 9 odds. The Titans trail as distant +375 underdogs on the NFL moneyline, and the total is pegged at 43.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Chargers have held the upper hand in recent dates with the Titans, claiming victory in 11 of 14 overall clashes since the Titians relocated from Houston in 1997, capped by last season’s decisive 27-17 win in Los Angles.

Totals bettors taking the OVER have enjoyed steady payouts when these teams meet. The OVER has gone 9-3-1 over their past 13 dates, but the total has topped 44 just twice in their past seven clashes.

The Titans have struggled to score during the current campaign, and rank dead last in the NFL with just 13.8 points per game. However, the Chargers have been far from prolific, averaging just 20.7 points per game in the six dates prior to last week’s blowout win.

Accordingly, both these teams have been betting disappointments, with the Titans covering the spread just once in their past seven outings while the charges have gone just 1-4 ATS in their past five.

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert is coming off a second straight three-touchdown performance in last week’s rout of the Vikings. The Chargers pivot has now connected on eight scoring passes over the past three weeks. However, accuracy remains a concern for Herbert, who has tossed three INTs over the past two games and at least one pick in five of the past six contests.

But with the Titans getting recently victimized by Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagoviloa, who lit them up for seven total TDs earlier in October, Herbert can be confidently backed on the NFL player props as a -200 bet to toss for multiple scores once again on Sunday.

While Herbert has put on an aerial show, Kimani Vidal has been getting it done on the ground. The second-year running back scampered for 117 yards and his first TD of the season last weekend. Vidal has now topped the century mark in two of the past three games and offers value as a -115 wager to run for OVER 72.5 yards in Tennessee.

Tennessee Titans

With the Titans struggling to generate offence, Cam Ward is enduring a trial by fire in his rookie NFL campaign. Overall, the Titans have scored just 11.6 points per game over their past five contests and the top pick in this year’s NFL draft has managed to contribute just three total TD passes over that stretch against five picks.

However, it is important to note that four of those contests were road games, and Ward has managed to find the end zone in each of the past three weeks. But with the Titans offence struggling through a rash of injuries, Ward may have to wait yet another wake for a breakthrough performance.

Among the players on this week’s injury report are rusher Tony Pollard, who was limited by a neck injury, and veteran receiver Calvin Ridley, who has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury and did not practice on Wednesday.

If Ridley is once again out, look for rookie Chimere Dike to have another busy day. Dike was Ward’s favourite target in last week’s loss to the Colts, making seven catches for a season-high 93 yards and has compiled 163 total receiving yards and one TD in the past two games.
