Montreal

Montreal’s last game was an historic win, as they became the first Canadian team in the PWHL to win on home ice. Captain Marie-Philip Poulin scored her fourth goal of the season as Montreal beat New York 3-2.

Montreal now sits in the second spot in the league standings with 9 points, comfortably ahead of Boston, in third place with 5 points. Their balanced record of .500 comes from consistent performances right from the beginning, despite running into some issues at the start of the season.

They are third in the league in points percentage, and they’ve only allowed two power play goals – a couple of great stats to build on. However, they hold the dubious honour of being the most penalized team in the league, with 17 penalties taken so far, with an average of 4.25 penalties per game.

Toronto

Even though Toronto gave what was their most impressive performance so far this season against Boston, they were unable to secure the win, and dropped their record to 0-3-0 at home and dropped them to the very bottom of the PWHL standings.

Hannah Miller scored twice for Toronto and netminder Kristen Campbell made 19 saves in the loss. Toronto outshot Boston 32-22 in the game, which up until the last couple minutes of regulation time, looked like an inevitable win for the Canadian side.

“That one stings,” Toronto head coach Troy Ryan said. “Losing a game where you for the most part outplayed Boston. That’s the best 60 minutes we’ve played by far this year.

“I think there’s a lot of things to look back and reflect on and be proud, but ultimately we got to find a way to win. You got to at least find a way to get that to overtime and to get a point with where we’re at right now.”
