Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo Evaluated for Concussion

The Las Vegas Raiders’ home opener on Sunday night didn’t go according to script. They lost 23-18. Worse, the defeat came at the hands of one of their oldest rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last but certainly not least, it was revealed after the game that QB Jimmy Garoppolo was being checked for concussion symptoms.

Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo Checked for Concussion

A bright start for the host Las Vegas Raiders ended in misery. After claiming an early 7-0 lead courtesy of a surprise TD toss from Jimmy G to WR Davante Adams on a fourth down play, the Steelers nullified whatever attacking prowess the Raiders threw at them. Josh Jacobs still hasn’t found his rhythm (62 yards on 17 carries) and Hunter Renfrow was a non-factor (two targets, 17 yards).

Garoppolo himself was far from terrific. His 324 yards through the air look good, but many of those yards came in chunks late in the game when Pittsburgh had a 23-7 stranglehold on the contest. Furthermore, three passes landed in the arms of players wearing black and gold rather than black and silver.

It’s unclear when the contact occurred that eventually encouraged the team to send their QB in for a concussion checkup. No such verifications were made mid-contest.

More news will surely come later on Monday or this week. The 23-18 defeat dropped the Raiders to 1-2, whereas the Steelers improved to 2-1. Las Vegas heads to the City of Angels to contend with the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4
