Damar Hamlin Participates in Full Practice with Buffalo Bills

Bills Mafia, the team itself, the player’s family and friends, everyone got a boost on Monday when third-year safety Damar Hamlin partook in fully equipped practice for training camp on Monday. It is almost exactly seven months since the nightmarish Monday Night Football contest in January when circumstances aligned for Hamlin to suffer a cardiac arrest.

Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin at Training Camp

All eyes were on Damar Hamlin on Monday at the Buffalo Bills’ training camp. Fully padded, running, and making contact with fellow teammates on the offensive side of the ball, Hamlin finally got to show that he’s ready for some football.

Speaking to the media for the first time since April, the 25-year-old shared some of his thoughts and feelings.

“I pretty much lost my life playing this sport. So, to come back and do it all over again, it’s all over the place. I’m rooted in my faith. I’m rooted in the love that I receive from my family, my teammates, and the love all around the world. That keeps me going. And I’ve got goals that I still want to achieve within this game.”

It’s quite remarkable to see Hamlin perform at this level. On January 2, Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest upon getting hit on a football play. The medics drove him off the field in an ambulance and to the nearest hospital. It came early in the first quarter of Buffalo’s match versus the Bengals in Cincinnati, a Monday Night showdown that had the NFL world buzzing in the leadup.

Hamlin was in attendance for the Divisional Round playoff match between the same sides a few weeks later. The Bengals emerged with a convincing 27-10 victory on a snow-filled day in Orchard Park.

The Buffalo Bills currently sit third in the Super Bowl odds at +860.
