Dolphins vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction
Miami is a 3-point favourite on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This could be a playoff preview and was flexed to the Sunday night window. The Dolphins should make the postseason, while the Chargers could. No question, though, that the storyline is the two starting quarterbacks in Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and LA’s Justin Herbert.
In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dolphins tried to trade up to No. 1 overall as they coveted Joe Burrow, but the Bengals weren’t moving out of that spot and took Burrow. Miami pivoted to Tua at No. 5 overall, leaving Herbert at No. 6 for Los Angeles. The past two seasons, it looked like the Dolphins made a massive mistake in not taking Herbert, and while he’s still excellent, Tagovailoa is having a breakout season. It certainly helps that he has maybe the best pair of receivers now in the league in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
The teams last met in Week 10 of the 2020 season and the Dolphins won 29-21 at home. Tua threw for 169 yards and two scores, while Herbert had 187 and two TDs with a pick. Miami didn’t have either Hill or Waddle then.
The home team is 7-3 against the spread in the past 10 meetings.
Miami Dolphins
Miami’s five-game winning streak ended in a 33-17 loss in San Francisco on Sunday. Tua Tagovailoa threw a 75-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game but was otherwise fairly quiet and picked off twice. He left late in the game but should be find to play here. Tyreek Hill had another 100-yard receiving game with 146 and a TD on nine catches, but Jaylen Waddle had just one catch for nine yards after injuring his leg in the second quarter. He would return but was clearly labouring. Right tackle Austin Jackson was out with an ankle injury and has been placed on injured reserve. Miami signed offensive tackle and former No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher on Monday. The Dolphins are 2-5 ATS in their past seven following a loss of at least 14 points.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers lost for the third time in four games Sunday, 27-20 at Las Vegas – they were outscored 17-7 in the second half and didn’t score an offensive TD until nearly midway through the fourth quarter. Justin Herbert completed 28 of 47 passes for 335 yards for this 20th career 300-yard game but was sacked five times. Keenan Allen returned after missing seven games with a hamstring injury and had six catches for 88 yards and a score. LA played with a backup left tackle, right tackle and centre. The Chargers are 6-2 against teams with a losing record and 0-4 against teams with a winning record. They are 5-2 ATS in their past seven after a loss.
