Chargers vs. Raiders Point Spread: NFL Week 13 Odds, Prediction
LA needs to keep pushing for a playoff spot and LV latter would like nothing more than to play spoiler.
It’s a “pick’em” match, with Brandon Staley’s Chargers sitting as -1 favourites on the NFL odds. The over-under is expected to be 50.5 points scored.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Considering that for a few years now both teams have consistently had fine if unspectacular regular seasons, the rivalry has been even keel. Dating back to 2016, the Chargers hold a 7-6 edge. In a strange twist, in 2016 – the last time at least the Raiders resembled a force – neither organization represented the city they do today…Home teams have claimed the last three games.
The Chargers may confound their fans, but betters who care about spreads have had a decent time rolling with them in 2022. At 7-4, LA has shown a solid ability to cover. There is perhaps a minor caveat: odds makers have favoured them eight times and they’re only 4-4 in those instances.
As for the Nevada unit, it’s earned a 5-6 record ATS, slightly better than their 4-7 win-loss tally. Josh McDaniels’ squad has been miserable when favoured this season, going 2-5 in the process. Conversely, they are 3-1 when underdogs. A two-game winning streak will also have them feeling good heading into this contest.
Los Angeles Chargers
At this stage of the campaign, every week is equivalent to a playoff game, as was the case in 2021 and 2020. Welcome to the world of Chargers football in December. At 6-5, the team is very much in the thick of it. With QB Justin Herbert in his season and coach Staley in his second, this year needs to be different.
Week 12’s contest in the desert against the Cardinals was a microcosm of who the Chargers are. After falling behind 10-0 in the second quarter – bewitched by Kyler Murray’s sorcery – they fought back to claim a 14-10 lead. The Cardinals screamed back and led 24-17 as late as the 2-minute warning of the final quarter. Herbert and company would not be denied. Marching down the field, Ekeler scored a goal-line TD. Not content to send the game to OT, the Chargers pulled off a bold 2-point conversion to win 25-24. Wild stuff.
WR remains questionable at the time of writing.
Las Vegas Raiders
A season that began with so much hope has gone down in flames. The squad is still alive at 4-7, but few believe they’ll turn the table. The Derek Carr- Davante Adams connection has been okay but below expectations. Injuries have hurt (WR Hunter Renfrow and TE Darren Waller are on IR), but the biggest issue is a familiar one: poor defence. 28th in yards against per game, 26th in pass yards against, and 26th in points against per game.
The one unquestionable bright spot has been the resurgence of RB Josh Jacobs (listed as questionable as of Wednesday). After a slow start, the running back has tormented defences for the past couple of months. He leads the NFL with 1,159 yards, as he does with his 105 yards per game. Week 12 in Seattle saw him explode for 303 all-purpose yards (229 on the ground, 74 in the air). His 86-yard scamper in overtime handed his side a wild 40-34 win.
