Lions vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 11 Odds, Prediction
New York’s Brian Daboll is a Coach of the Year candidate while Dan Campbell needs more wins to keep his job in Detroit.
Despite what looks like a mismatch on face value, the Giants are only -3 favourites on the NFL odds. The over-under is supposed to be 46 points in total.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Neither franchise has been in tip-top shape much for the last decade, so a 3-3 split over the past six meetings seems fair under the circumstances.
Despite the Motown boys only sporting a 3-6 win-loss record, things have been much brighter ATS. A 5-4 tally demonstrates the team’s ability to at least play respectable football most of the time. Furthermore, they’ve covered twice in a row. 5-4 is also impressive considering they’ve been underdogs in eight of nine games so far.
As for the G-Men, it’s a straightforward conversation. The New Jersey-based outfit is 7-2 in the NFC East, and they’ve compiled the exact same record against the spread. What’s more, the only two failures to cover were during their defeats. They lose and they don’t cover. They win and they cover.
The matchup is intriguing. Detroit is a top 10 offence in most major categories. New York is not a top 10 defence except where it counts: points allowed per game (only 19.2).
Detroit Lions
There aren’t many reasons to be happy as a Lions fan (ever, unfortunately for them), so riding a two-game winning streak despite being three games under .500 is basically smooth sailing. It began with a spectacular, out-of-the-blue defensive bashing of the Packers in Week 9 that ended with a 15-9 victory.
Week 10’s visit to the Windy City to face the Bears saw the league-worst defence play to its usual standards. In fairness, no one slows down Justin Fields these days, so it was pleasant to see Detroit seal the 31-30 win with a sack of the NFL’s most elusive QB. Dan Campbell’s squad showed spirit in the fourth quarter. Trailing 24-10, Jared Goff and company strung together two impressive drives down the field to turn the tide. Solid passing and a nice running game “by committee” saved the day. WR Amon Saint-Brown was excellent (10 catches for 119 yards) and, if he plays this well, could flirt with a 1,000-yard season.
New York Giants
Anything less than a convincing victory over bottom-dwelling Houston Texans would have disappointed. To that end, the Giants did just that, albeit in their own fashion. For what it’s worth, it was the first time all season that New York held a two-score lead during a contest. It still ended by one score, 24-16, but for a while, it felt as if the home side held a “big lead.”
With WR Sterling Shepard on IR, it was a coming-out party of sorts for Darius Slayton. He only caught three passes but went for 95 yards, including a 54-yard scamper down the left side after initially bobbling QB Daniel Jones pass. Of note are the 35 carries RB Saquon Barkley took. It helped him on his way to a 152-yard day at the office, but 35 carries is a massive number. Maybe Daniel Jones is given more designed runs, or fellow back Matt Breida is given a load against a leaky Lions’ defence.
