Team Canada
Canada has been steamrolling through this year’s tournament, and their 7-0 victory against Germany on Saturday was just more proof that Canada is the team to beat at the 2021 Women’s World Championships.
Natalie Spooner got two goals and an assist in the game, with the other goals coming from Ashton Bell, captain Marie-Philip Poulin, Sarah Fillier, Brianne Jenner and Melodie Daoust.
The Canadians were stout on defence, allowing only three shots on net, which goalie Maschmeyer had no problem stopping to earn her second shutout.
Team Switzerland
Switzerland had the comeback win of the tournament on Saturday against the ROC. The Swiss were trailing for the entire game before managing to tie things up with two minutes left in the final period. In overtime, they scored again to eliminate the Russian team and set up Monday’s rematch with Canada.
It’s a monumental task to get past Canada, and they’ll have to do it without their most talented forward Alina Müller. Scoring has been an issue throughout the tournament for the Swiss, an issue they’ll have to solve to beat the Canadians.
