French Open tennis odds and picks, featuring Felix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Fernandez
The French Open, the second Grand Slam on the annual tennis calendar, gets underway on Sunday and will run through June 7. Jannik Sinner is a massive favorite on the men’s side, while the women’s event appears to be much more wide open. Among the top women’s title threats are Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Mirra Andreeva.
Don’t count out the Canadian contingent, however, as there are realistic contenders in both events. In the men’s bracket, Felix Auger-Aliassime is going off as the No. 4 seed. Although Bianca Andreescu lost in qualifying, Canadians in the women’s main draw include Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez. Both are seeded, with Mboko checking in at No. 9 and Fernandez registering at No. 24.
Let’s take a look at some of the first-round matchups at Roland Garros and discuss the best bets to make.

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Daniel Altmaier
This is not an easy opening matchup for Auger-Aliassime. Altmaier absolutely loves clay and once took down Jannik Sinner at the French Open. That was back in 2023, before the Italian completed his rise to prominence, but it remains an impressive result for the German. Altmaier has won 11 matches this season, with all 11 coming on clay, including over Ben Shelton in Hamburg earlier this week.
The world No. 65 ended up losing to Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals, but at least that means he will be well rested for Paris. Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime fell to Aleksandar Kovacevic in the Hamburg second round and is now 7-10 on clay dating back to the start of 2025. At the very least, Altmaier has a great chance of making this first-round contest competitive.
Prediction: Altmaier +5.5 games (-120)
Leylah Fernandez vs. Alycia Parks
Fernandez may not be in the kind of form that improbably carried her to the 2021 U.S. Open final (lost to Emma Raducanu), but she is starting to show signs of turning back the clock to that level. The 23-year-old, who once climbed as high as 13th in the rankings, is back up to No. 24 in the world. She struggled on hard courts earlier this season but is sporting a solid 8-6 record on clay in 2026.
Fernandez’s spring includes quarterfinal performances in both Madrid and Strasbourg. The left-hander is a former Roland Garros quarterfinalist (2022), so – unlike her opponent – she knows what she is doing on clay. Parks is a big server who much prefers faster surfaces, so it is no surprise that the American has won just a single main-draw match in her entire career at the French Open.
Pick: Fernandez -1.5 sets (-165)
Gabriel Diallo vs. James Duckworth
It’s hard to have any faith in Diallo heading into the French Open. The 24-year-old has been in terrible form this season, and clay has always been his worst surface. He is 6-12 overall in 2026 (1-4 on clay) and retired from his most recent tournament (Madrid) due to an apparent lower back and/or hip injury. As such, Diallo arrives in Paris with a serious question.
Also concerning is the fact that he lost his last match against Duckworth this past fall in Kazakhstan on an indoor hard court – a surface that should have favored Diallo. Clay gives Duckworth an even better opportunity, so it would be no surprise to see the veteran Aussie win this match outright.
Best bet: Duckworth ML (+152)
