World Cup 2014 Mexico vs. Cameroon Score, Live Updates, Result
Greetings, gamblers!
Ah, the beautiful game. Given all the political upheaval in Brazil before, and now during the 2014 World Cup, the product on the field sometimes gets lost in the other mess outside the stadium. Thankfully, now that the tournament is underway, we can start digging into the matchups.
Today we have an interesting one kicking off Friday’s schedule with Mexico battling Cameroon. You can stay up-to-date with everything going on at the World Cup with our interactive calendar. It has everything you need to know about all the groups, daily fixtures, odds and the knockout bracket.

Pregame
As a Canadian who grew up playing and following soccer fairly closely, the state of our national side is completely embarrassing. Canada has more kids kicking soccer balls than shooting hockey pucks these days and we still can’t get even remotely close to this level.
That said, the World Cup is a bloody big deal in Canada, so I’ll do my best to give a Canuck’s take on these games with some live blogs.
Disclaimer: If you’re looking for jokes about players diving and comparisons to hockey, this won’t do much for you. Soccer’s a different game and Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals is later tonight. This afternoon we’re talking about the beautiful game.
Mexico vs. Cameroon
Odds: Mexico -128, Cameroon +307, Draw +272
First half:
And we’re underway.
Forgot to mention, you ought to check out our in-match betting page as well.
Looked like Mexico should have won a corner on a long effort from Aguilar but it was ruled a goal kick.
Jittery start from both sides. We’ll need 10 minutes or so before everyone settles down a bit.
Layun registers first shot on target of the game for Mexico. Easily dealt with but Mexico controlling the play and possession through the ninth minute.
Oh my. Dos Santos goal called back on a razor-thin offside in the 12th minute. Think they got it right but that was very, very close.
By the looks of things early on, maybe Cameroon just should have never gotten on that dang plane.
Sloppy offside on a Cameroon corner negates another goal. That one was obvious – and lazy.
Another corner for Cameroon results on a wide header.
Eto’o with a great chance but it’s off the post and wide.
Another Cameroon corner coming up in the 23rd minute. Seems as though that great chance has given Cameroon a spark.
Mexico getting very frustrated with the officiating already, which comes about 20 minutes later than I expected. Denied another goal by an offside flag.
So can we just give the referee Man of the Match honours again and get on with it? Great, thanks.
Really not sure on that last offside call. The first one against Mexico was certainly right, but the second one’s awfully close. You’d think the striker gets the benefit of the doubt there.
Totally shocked the pitch is holding up this well in these conditions. I guess that’s where all the money went… right?
Dos Santos has been EVERYWHERE. Currently a close second to the referee for Man of the Match.
That’s it for the first 45. Mexico 0, Cameroon 0.

Second half:
You’re telling me this is an ALL-COLUMBIAN OFFICIATING CREW. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
With another look, Dos Santos’ second goal that was called off should have counted. It comes off a defender before he puts it away. Time to get Referee for Man of the Match trending, friends.
Excellent save there as Mexico comes close again. Dos Santos with another great through ball.
Layun hits the pitch hard but is back to his feet. He’s been Mexico’s second-best today.
Hector Moreno takes the first yellow card of the day in the 57th minute.
GOAL MEXICO! Oribe Peralta strikes and the flag stays down in the 62nd minute.
Live #MexVsCMR betting has Mexico as the -556 favorite now after the goal. Any takers on #CMR at +2300?
Marco Fabian comes on as a substitute for Guardado 69′. Only a matter of time before Hernandez comes on too.
And there’s Chicharito coming on for Peralta at the 74th minute. That should give Mexico another big boost with his speed flying around the pitch.
A few nice balls from Cameroon, but still can’t hold possession in the attacking zone for any length of time. Just no answer for Mexico’s speed or tenacity.
Less than 10 minutes left. Can Cameroon find an equalizer? Currently paying +550 for a draw in this one.
Finally some urgency from Cameroon, but it looks like it’s too little too late.
That’s it, that’s all. 1-0 Mexico.
Hey, on the bright side #CMR you’re still easily leading my #WorldCup power rankings in terrible haircuts per side.
