Jason Hernandez named Toronto FC’s GM
TFC is mired in a dreadful season, and the glory years of 2016 and 2017 feel like a lifetime ago. Following yet another defeat over the weekend – 2-1 away to the New England Revolution – the club announced on Monday the firing of coach and general manager Bob Bradley. The latter had served in that capacity since 2021 but was unable to find success. Toronto is currently in 14th place in the Eastern Conference at 3-10-7, in other words, next to last place.
Just a day later, on Tuesday, TFC president Bill Manning made it publicly known that they had found their new GM even though the search for a permanent coach goes on. They’re hiring from within, as former player and assistant GM Jason Hernandez gets the promotion.
Team president Bill Manning:
“I’ve seen first-hand Jason’s transition from playing at TFC to joining the front office. His growth as an executive has been exceptional, and he is ready for this next step in his career.”
Jason Hernandez’s MLS career spanned from 2005 to 2018. He finished his playing time with two campaigns at TFC. Shortly thereafter he stayed with the club but as a member of the front office, where he has been working for five years now.
Toronto’s next match is this weekend, Saturday, July 1 – Canada Day – at home to Real Salt Lake. Terry Dunfield currently serves as interim head coach
