Switzerland vs. Spain Prediction: 2020 Euro Betting Odds
Switzerland was able to pull off one of the greatest victories in their history in the last game, stopping Kylian Mbappe’s penalty kick in order to advance into the quarters for the first time since 1938. Now they advance to face off against a Spain team that was able to slip past Croatia in extra time.

It is worth noting that these two teams always end up locking each other down when they face off. Their last two matches against one another ended in a 1-1 draw and a 1-0 Spain victory. Go two matchups back again and you see that there was another 1-1 draw along with a 1-0 Switzerland victory back in 2010 at the World Cup. Spain doesn’t want a low-scoring, grind-it-out affair as that benefits Switzerland. If offense and free-flowing play rules the day, Spain will win.
Switzerland
This team can’t be any happier with their performance against the world champs, eliminating France in incredible fashion. Switzerland held an early 1-0 and then failed on a penalty shot where they could have built a bigger buffer. Instead, France roared back to take a 3-1 lead in what surely seemed like the end. Switzerland fought hard to battle back and tie it at 3-3, and then won in penalties. Now this team has a lot of confidence and momentum pushing forward into the quarters.
This roster has a fantastic style of play, which will come in handy against a team like Spain. They don’t give up and that effort will be a major factor. They’re not the most talented team, so they have to outwork their opponents. Head coach Vladimir Petkovic talked about the team’s effort against France, saying how each and every player went to 120 percent on the field. If Switzerland wants to keep on moving forward, they must maintain that level of play to give themselves an edge.
One of the biggest problems they may run into in this matchup is the suspension of their team captain, Granit Xhaka. Replacing him is no easy task and the rest of the starters will have to do a little more in order to even out him not being on the field. This is a very tough matchup for Switzerland, but their win against France proved that they are capable.
Spain
Spain hasn’t played their best ball yet in this tournament but their offense has been impressive. They have scored 10 goals in their last two matches and seemingly have no issue offensively but the problem has been on the defensive end. They will have to get that cleaned up before facing off against Switzerland.
Spain hasn’t been able to win the championship in nine years but are tied with Germany for the most trophies of all-time in this tourney. To add to that stack, they have to figure out their problems at the back end. They’ve been very porous, including a pathetic own goal to start their previous game when a basic little kickback to the keeper led to a lapse and a 1-0 deficit.
