Germany vs. Scotland: Euro 2024 Odds, Prediction

Euro 2024 kicks off Friday in Munich with a Group A matchup between host Germany and Scotland at 3 p.m. ET. These teams enter the tournament with wildly different past results. Germany has won three European Championships and played in six finals, while Scotland has never made it out of the group stage and has just two wins in tournament history.

The Germans are -350 moneyline favourites on the Euro 2024 odds, with the goal total set at 2.5.

Germany vs. Scotland Betting Odds

Germany has a rich history of success in the European Championship as they’re three-time winners of the tournament, although their last title was in 1996. Scotland, on the other hand, has only qualified for three previous European Championships. They picked up one win each in 1992 and 1996, but finished with a draw and two losses in 2020.

In head-to-head action, Germany has eight wins, Scotland has four wins and five matches have ended in a draw. The FIFA world rankings currently have Germany listed at No. 16 and Scotland at No. 39.

It’s no surprise to see Germany with the third-shortest odds to win Euro 2024 at +550, trailing only France (+450) and England (+350). Scotland is a dismal +20,000 to win the tournament. Germany is a -250 favourite to win Group A, while Scotland has the longest odds at +1000.

If you’re looking for player props, there’s solid value in taking Germany’s Toni Kroos at +1200 to be named Player of the Tournament. Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz also has the second-shortest odds to be named Young Player of the Tournament at +550.

Germany

While Germany is a highly decorated national team, their only major tournament victory since the 2014 World Cup was winning the now defunct Confederation’s Cup in 2017. Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann was appointed manager of the national team last September. Under Nagelsmann, Germany has knocked off top tier opponents like the United States, France and the Netherlands, but they’ve been limited to playing friendlies as they automatically qualified for the tournament as the host country. This tournament will be Nagelsmann’s first competitive test as national team manager.

Nagelsmann has said he wants to stick with the lineup he used in a 2-0 victory over France in March. Kroos, who initially retired from international play after Euro 2020, is expected to be in the starting XI, along with Wirtz, Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, Robert Andrich, captain Ilkay Gundogan, Maximilan Mittelstadt, Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rudiger, Joshua Kimmich and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic has been ruled out of the entire tournament after contracting tonsillitis. He’ll be replaced by Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Can.

Scotland

There’s not a great history of success for the Scottish national team. Not only have they never won a major tournament, they’ve never made it out of the group stage at a major tournament. Their biggest success on the international stage is in the UEFA Nation’s League in which they won promotion to League A ahead of the 2024-25 competition. Scotland qualified for Euro 2024 with two matches to spare thanks to a record-breaking five straight wins in the qualifying round.

Scottish captain Andrew Robertson has been deemed fit to play after an ankle injury scare during training. The rest of the starting XI is expected to be Lawrence Shankland, Scott McTominay, John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, Anthony Ralston, Kieran Tierney, Grant Hanley, Jack Hendry and goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
