France
This is a stacked squad and the favourite to win the tournament. They’ve reached the final of their last two major international tournaments involving European teams and anything short of a spot in the Final at Wembley will be a failure. This team is so deep at every position, manager Didier Deschamps didn’t even seem to attempt to thwart Aymeric Laporte’s new allegiance to Spain. The former Monaco, Juventus and Marseille manager became just the third person to ever win the World Cup as a player and as a coach when France took the championship in 2018.
On a roster full of the best players in the world, Mbappe stands above the rest. The Paris Saint-Germain forward is 22-years-old and has absolutely dominated the international scene. Mbappe has 37 goals and 10 assists across all competitions and he’s already proven himself on the biggest stages. With Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann also at full strength, this is the team to beat in the tournament.
Germany
This is manager Joachim Low’s swan song as he’s set to step down after the tournament, so you can bet every player will have a little extra motivation to send him off in style. Low is relying more on experience than youth, with players like Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels, Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gundogan and Manuel Neuer on the roster. There is still a sprinkle of the young guns though, led by Serge Gnabry, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
One player that is expected to make a huge impact is Joshua Kimmich. The Bayern Munich midfielder won a U19 championship in 2014 and made the starting lineup for the senior team in Germany’s run to the semifinals of Euro 2016. Kimmich is capable of scoring, but he’s also a playmaker who has put up 14 assists in all competitions at the club level this year.
