China vs England Prediction, Women’s World Cup Odds
The road for the Chinese is more complicated. For one, they need to overcome the English, which won’t be an easy task. Second, they need help from Haiti – already eliminated – to defeat Denmark. Nothing is impossible at a World Cup, as evidenced by some incredible results so far in the tournament.
The World Cup odds determine that England are the favourites, priced at -233. China is +620 and a draw is set at +320.
China vs England Betting Analysis
While the task is tall for China, the reality is that, historically, they’ve held their own versus the English. In four meetings, the Asian superpower has won twice, drawn once, and lost once. To be fair, even the most recent contest was in 2015, and both teams have changed dramatically in the interim, but it isn’t as if China is incapable of producing a lineup that can put England to the sword.
Here is a statistic England should pay attention to. China has never lost its third group stage match, posting a brilliant 5-2-0 record. The last two matches correspond to the two draws in their record, but it’s an excellent performance all the same. It has been a bit difficult as of late against European opposition, however. Apart from two wins against Russia – who aren’t at this World Cup – defeats have been suffered at the hands of the Danes, the Spanish, and the Swedes earlier this year.
After losing their third group stage match all the way back in 1995 and missing the 1999 and 2003 editions, England is a perfect 4-0-0 at this juncture. Looking at some results, the team seems to get better as the group stage progresses – two 2-0 wins over Japan, and a 6-1 thrashing of Argentina. England haven’t played any Asian country since just before the pandemic in March 2020 when they defeated Japan 1-0 at the SheBelieves Cup.
China
The East Asian side didn’t make it easy for themselves against Haiti, but they ultimately got the job done, if barely.
When Zhang Rui was sent off in the 29th minute for a rather clumsy tackle, Haiti was presented a glorious opportunity to get their own World Cup journey back on track. But in a testament to the quality that separates the teams, the island-based squad mustered only a single shot on target, albeit one that forced a brilliant save from Zhu Yu. Renowned midfielder Wang Shuang finally broke the deadlock on a 74th-minute penalty after a foul that required video review. Consider that China was down a woman yet held the ball 54 per cent of the time. Make the final China 1-0 Haiti.
This is a well put together team. Perhaps not the best, but one that has it in them to put on a good performance against any opponent.
England
Six minutes into the contest against Denmark, one would have been encouraged to believe that the floodgates were open. In reality, England held on for an important win after its second serviceable if unspectacular performance of the 2023 World Cup.
Lauren James hit a sixth-minute screamer that landed in the far left corner of the Danish net. The English fans were ebullient and James’ teammates enthusiastically rushed to congratulate her. Yet the Danes had come to play and were not about to lay down their arms so easily. Most of the quality chances for the rest of the first half came from them, not England. The latter suffered a huge blow when Keira Walsh fell to the ground in the 38th minute and left the match. Reports are that it is not an ACL injury, but should her tournament be done, this does England no favours. The British side turned up the heat in the second half and almost doubled their lead on a couple of occasions, but had to be content with a 1-0 final. Two wins are supremely important, but fans are waiting for England to really take off.
