Canada Goalie Milan Borjan to Miss Rest of Concacaf Gold Cup

Canada Soccer made it public on Monday that Canadian captain and goalkeeper Milan Borjan has suffered a tournament-ending injury. The details of what ails him have not been disclosed at the time of writing. His Gold Cup journey is officially done, putting CANMNT’s chances at winning it all – already not great – in jeopardy.

Canada Goalie Milan Borhan Injured, Gold Cup Done

Borjan has been a staple of the Canadian men’s national squad for the past few years. He was instrumental in helping the team earn a birth at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the country’s first participation in the men’s tournament since 1986 in Mexico. As a co-host of the 2026 edition, Canada automatically gets to field a team.

The keeper was solid when called into action on Saturday night against Guatemala, a match that concluded 0-0. Canada has played and drawn twice, leaving them with two points out of a possible six. Tuesday evening’s Group D closer against Cuba is as “must win” as it gets, but now the team has to do it with its captain.

He has flown back to Europe to recover ahead of the start of the continent’s domestic leagues later in August. He normally suits up for FK Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) in the Serbian Superliga.

As it stands, Dayne St. Clair is next in line to serve as goalkeeper for team Canada, although Tom McGill is also on the roster.

Tuesday night’s game will be played in Houston, Texas.  Canada, Guadeloupe, and Guatemala all have a chance to advance. Cuba has been eliminated from knockout round content.
