2018 World Cup: Group F Odds and Prediction
The competition in Group F will be fierce but only for second place. The defending World Cup champions Germany are miles ahead of the three teams slotted in their group. Mexico are the favourites among Sweden and South Korea to advance to the knockout stages, but their performance at the Confederation’s Cup could foreshadow a flop in Russia.
World Cup 2018 Group F Betting Odds
Odds to advance: Germany (-1200), Mexico (+110), Sweden (+125), South Korea (+250)
The Germans have enough attacking talent to embarrass even the top countries FIFA’s world rankings. Die Mannschaft beat Portugal and Brazil by a combined score of 11-1 on their way to winning the 2014 World Cup.
The matches between the other three nations in this group should be closely contested. The winner of the Mexico-Sweden match will likely join the Germans into the knockout stages.
World Cup Group F Team Previews
Odds to win the World Cup: Germany (+450), Mexico (+10,000), Sweden (+15,000), South Korea (+75,000)
German captain Manuel Neuer is expected to be the starting keeper even though he only recently returned from an eight-month layoff due to a fractured foot. Seven of Germany’s 23 players on the roster are teammates at Bayern Munich. Click here for our complete Germany betting preview.
Mexico are experienced and they have made it to the final 16 in the last six World Cups. Rafa Marquez, a former Barcelona defender, will be playing in his fifth World Cup for El Tri as a defensive midfielder. He was named in a US Treasury investigation into drug trafficking in August 2017, but has not been convicted of any crimes. Sports Interaction’s full Mexico World Cup team preview is here.
Sweden dusted Italy in a playoff match to qualify for Russia, but they come to the tournament without their big, pony-tailed striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 36-year-old retired from international play after the 2016 Euro Cup. Check out our complete betting preview for Sweden here.
South Korea sacked their manager after narrowly qualifying for the World Cup in a weak group. The new man, Shin Tae-young, stills seems unsure on whether he’ll employ three or four at the back in his formation. Full South Korea team betting preview here.
Group F Players to Watch
Son Heung-min, South Korea: The 25-year-old forward has the pace and finishing qualities to strike quickly on counter attacks, and he scored 39 goals in the last two seasons at Tottenham in the English Premier League.
Emil Forsberg, Sweden: He’s been named Swedish Midfielder of the Year three times since 2014 and he has a starring role at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. The 26-year can play in a creative role in the middle of the park or out on the wing, and he’s known for making killer passes in the final third.
Group F Best Bets and Predictions
Germany are far and away the class of Group F and they could hand out a thrashing to South Korea. Take a look at the over for goals scored for the Germans in each of their group matches.
Mexico are the second most-talented side in the group, but their starting striker, Javier Hernandez, no longer possesses the pace expose slow-footed defenders. Expect Mexico’s matches to be low-scoring – particularly in their showdown with Sweden.
Our predictions for the final standings are as follows: Germany, Sweden, Mexico, South Korea.
