Canada vs. Iceland International Soccer Friendly Preview and Prediction

The domestic soccer leagues take a backseat this weekend for the international break, and while several countries are still trying to punch their tickets to the 2026 World Cup, Canada, one of the event’s three co-hosts, is focusing on tightening its squad up ahead of June.

The Canadians get their next chance to do that on Saturday against Iceland at 1 p.m. ET at Toronto’s BMO Field.

Coach Jesse Marsch’s squad won their 2026 match opener, 1-0, against Guatemala. Canada comes into Saturday’s contest riding a four-game unbeaten run, going 2-0-2 and not conceding a goal during that span.

Iceland, which was adored by fans worldwide in recent competitions, will not be heading to North America for this year’s World Cup, but they are playing a host of friendlies against countries that are, including Mexico, which beat them 4-0 last month.

The hosts are missing several key players due to injury. How will that affect Canada on Saturday?

Canada vs. Iceland Odds and Betting Trends

Canada is established as a clear -200 favourite to win this friendly, while their Icelandic opponents are available at +500, with the draw at +320.

Iceland concluded its failed World Cup qualifying campaign by going 2-3-1 in its last six group matches, only winning against a meagre Azerbaijan side.

Saturday’s odds perceives talent disparities between the Icelandic team and the Canadians, the contest’s Toronto location, and Iceland’s recent performance, including last month’s blowout loss to Mexico.

The over/under sits at 2.5 goals, with the over currently listed at -120.

Canada

Canada’s roster is heavily impacted by injuries, most notably to captain Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich’s left back, who suffered a right hamstring strain during the club’s 6-1 Champions League win over Atalanta earlier this month.

Stephen Eustáquio and striker Promise David are also out, forcing a reshuffled squad. The attack still features elite talent in Juventus’ Jonathan David, alongside Southampton’s Cyle Larin and Villarreal’s Tajon Buchanan. David remains the focal point, coming off strong club form, while Larin provides physical presence up top.

BMO Field has been good to the men’s team in recent times, with the Canucks avoiding defeat in their last five appearances at that venue.

Iceland

Iceland blends experienced defenders with an emerging attacking core. Key players include Lille’s Hakon Haraldsson and Orri Oskarsson, both young attackers producing at the club level.

Oskarsson has scored five goals in 16 matches with La Liga side Real Sociedad this season, and already has seven international goals. Midfielders like FC Koln’s Isak Bergmann Johannesson and Genoa’s Mikael Ellertsson add technical ability and experience.

Tactically, Iceland tends to sit deep and counter, rarely dominating possession and instead relying on defensive structure and opportunistic attacking. Their back line is notably older and more experienced, which helps maintain shape but can leave them vulnerable to pace.

Prediction: Who will win Canada vs. Iceland?

Iceland’s compact defensive shape will likely frustrate Canada early, and their counterattacking threats through Haraldsson or Oskarsson could create moments of danger.

However, Canada’s superior depth, athleticism, and home environment should tilt the balance. It may not be a convincing result, as the absence of Davies and Eustáquio removes two of the team’s most dynamic and creative players, but look for Canada to continue its unbeaten run and extend Iceland’s misery on North American soil with a 2-0 triumph.
