It wouldn’t be a World Cup without the prestigious Golden Glove award, a trophy that Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez deservedly took home in the 2022 tournament. Since 1994, only European keepers from Belgium (Thibaut Courtois and Michel Preud’homme), Germany (Manuel Neuer and Oliver Kahn), Spain (Iker Casillas), France (Fabien Barthez), and Italy (Gianluigi Buffon) have won the award, making Martinez the first South American to do so.

2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Glove odds

Emiliano Martinez leads the way once again at +450 odds to win the trophy, as the 33-year-old was crucial not only in Aston Villa’s fourth-place Premier League finish this year, but the 2022 World Cup penalty shootouts as well. Unai Simon of Spain is up there with Martinez at +450 after making 100 saves in 37 La Liga matches. Of course, Brazil’s Alisson Becker (+500), France’s Mike Maignan (+600), and England’s Jordan Pickford (+700) are all frontrunners for the Golden Glove, making the top nations’ goalies the main contenders. Check out the full top 10 below:

  • Emiliano Martínez – Argentina (+450)
  • Unai Simón – Spain (+450)
  • Alisson Becker – Brazil (+500)
  • Mike Maignan – France (+600)
  • Jordan Pickford – England (+700)
  • Ederson – Brazil (+700)
  • David Raya – Spain (+700)
  • Diego Costa – Switzerland (+1000)
  • Oliver Baumann – Germany (+1200)
  • Joan Garcia Pons – Spain (+1400)

Golden Glove best bet: David Raya (+700)

Spain’s goalkeeper bench is loaded with options, including second-string choice David Raya, the man who made a world of difference in Arsenal’s Premier League and Champions League success this past year. He earned both the EPL and UCL Golden Glove awards, allowing just 26 goals in the domestic league with 60 saves, and only four goals allowed in the UCL with 33 saves and nine clean sheets.

With Spain’s possession-based play-style and highly capable roster, including top-tier experienced defenders like Eric Garcia, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Cucurella, Pau Cubarsi, and Pedro Porro, more clean sheets are sure to come for Raya. Not only is he a natural-born shot-stopper, but he’s got hefty experience in shutting teams out, and if he gets time over teammate Unai Simon, he’s sure to shine, keep his spot, and earn the Golden Glove.

Golden Glove prediction: Joan Garcia (+1400)

Pairing this with David Raya and Unai Simon makes any of Spain’s goalkeepers truly a best bet for the Golden Glove award. The only thing that stands in the 6’4″ Barcelona goalkeeper’s way is playtime from his teammates. This year, he took home the La Liga Golden Glove award with a 0.73 goals-against average while achieving 15 clean sheets in the league. His positioning, fearlessness, composure, and ability to play out of the back make him a major component of the team’s offensive buildup play.

If he touches the pitch, there’s a certain chemistry with his seven club teammates on the squad. Unai Simon may be the favourite choice for Luis de la Fuente, but with so much talent on the bench, it’ll be hard for him to have a guaranteed spot for all matches. If Garcia stands in goal for any big games, it could not only secure him the starting spot for Spain, but also his first Golden Glove award.

Golden Glove long shot pick: Matt Freese (+5000)

The United States national team is already a major long shot pick despite their home nation advantage, but if one thing’s for sure, it’s that America produces solid goalkeepers. Matt Freese is pretty much guaranteed the starting spot over Matt Turner, as the New York City FC goalie currently runs with a 73.9 save percentage to allow just 21 goals after 15 MLS games.  In 69 shots on target against him this season, he’s got 51 saves, at a rate of about 1.4 goals allowed per 90 minutes, one of the better goalkeeping stats out of 32 teams in the league.

If you’re truly looking for a long shot pick, the USA’s Matt Freese may be a sensible choice at +5000 odds to win the Golden Glove. However, he’ll need a near-perfect group stage with minimal goals allowed, which will hopefully lead to the US’ qualification into the next round.
