You know hockey season is just around the corner when everybody starts flipping out about some photos of what might be the jerseys for Canada’s hockey team at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. Reminder: The Sochi Winter Olympics begin February 7, 2014, which is more than four months away.

At any rate, it looks as though the above photo is of the three jerseys Team Canada will wear at the Olympics. Considering photos of Jonathan Toews wearing the red version of the jersey have been floating around the Internet for more than a month now, it does seem very possible these are the team’s uniforms.

Add that to the fact that these jerseys appear to be very similar to those that Team USA rolled out a while ago. Take a close look at where the Nike swoosh is on both and you’ll see some similarities there.

The original photo of Toews that made its way around social media sites was originally credited to Melinda Pilon of Getty Images. So, seems legit.

Now, if these are in fact the uniforms Team Canada will “unveil” on Oct. 8, I don’t want any part of them. The red version isn’t bad. The simplicity isn’t a bad thing and the mostly red look is something we can get used to instead of a more prominent maple leaf. These jerseys resemble the practice jersey feel that many teams are going with recently.

That said, what is going on with the white and black sweaters? Just imagine trying to watch a huge Team Canada game (being played Russia’s time zone) and they’re wearing almost all white. It’s a headache waiting to happen. Unless Team Canada hopes the all-white look will help the club blend into the white ice, you have to wonder what they’re thinking about with these.

And then there are the black jerseys. There just isn’t much to say here. They’re black. They have Canada stated simply across the chest. If you’re asking me, they’re boring and bordering on awful. And is that a gold border? Talk about a gold medal jinx.

For what it’s worth, Canada is now the clear-cut gold medal favorite at +169 after opening as co-favorites with Russia.
